About
This water fall is also identified as one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Sri Lanka. Since the shape of the cascade is similar to a 'Bo' leave (Ficus Religiosa), the fall has given its name. It is formed with Kuruganga River originated from Samanala Kanda (Adam's peak) range of mountains. Since the annual rain fall received by the catchments area of the fall is more than 5000mm, the average flow of the fall is not less than 6 cubic meters per second.

This is a very nice and very famous waterfall & 30m tall. This is in Kuruwita, 2.5hrs (around 75km) away from Colombo, from Kuruwita turn to Higgashena - Devipahala rd. Location is there in the google map and can easily follow that. Vehicles have to park at the car park and walk up to the waterfall view point. If someone wants to go to the bottom of the waterfall have to cross the water stream and find your way through the rocks. Not hard but get the advice from the ticketing counter before you cross the do that. During the rainy season water levels can go up and rocks can be slippery. Time you spend here is subjected to what you want do here, just seeing the fall from the view point, want to go closer to the fall, taking professional pics, having a bath or having a picnic....... There are so many food stalls and hotels nearby ... But due to corvid, now many have closed down.

If you are passing Kuruwita, Bopath Falls is not a sight to miss. A gift from the mother nature, Bopath falls is popular among travelers because of the natural pool. Situated around 7km away from the main road.

really beutiful falls - two ways to access - through the forest - easier route, through the rocks - difficult route. but the views at the end are simply stunning.

nice experience. good place to visit if u are looking for adventure. have to walk through a stream with very slippery rocks to go near the waterfall.not advisable to take small kids.can bathe in the stream with shallow water.can go on a small bamboo raft for Rs.250 for a short distance just for the experience of it.but overpriced.

It wasn't difficult to reach this place. We visited there from a private vehicle. There is a entry ticket which you'll have to pay at the gate. Cost about 100rs for a foreigner. For a local adult its 20rs. Try to visit the fall by going little bit closer to it. Worth the visit. You can have a bath also if you need.

The waterfall itself is high up and far away but some of the cool water cascades to a very large bathing area. It is very safe and calm during the dry season but there is a lot of water during the rainy seasonand it can get very dangerous for bathing.

Tickets are issued to enter. Vehicles cannot be taken in. If you have lunch at a hotel down the single lane narrow approach road, you can use their car park.

This waterfall has been highlighted since it is one of the few attractive waterfalls location within a shorted distance from Colombo. Even though Sri Lanka is a country of having many nice waterfalls, most of those are located in hill country which we will have to spend more time when travelling from Colombo.

You have to drive from Colombo - Rathnapura main road and have to turn left near Kuruwita. There is a name board at the road where you have to get that turn. The hight of this waterfall is only 30 m. But it has a nice view. The name "Bopath Ella" has derived from it's shape. The shape of it looks like a "Boo Leaf" (a leaf of Ficus religiosa) when the waterfall is rich with water during the rainy season.

Even though some people used to have a bath at the nearby pond, it is very dangerous to bath at the areas closer to the waterfall because there is a risk of increasing the water level rapidly mostly during rainy seasons. Please be careful when getting into the rocks since most of those are very slippery and the pools surrounded by those rocks closer to the waterfall are very deep.
