We loved our visit to Peter Cellars! The owner was present throughout the visit, as was their lead tasting expert. Both were the right amount of helpful, without being pushy about actually purchasing the wines. We ended up buying 6 bottles because we loved the wine so much but we never felt pressured to do so the way we did at other wineries in which we tasted. The setting is close to downtown which was nice as we didn't have to trek far, and yet offered the ideal winery setting, with a perfect covered space complete with fire. It was a favorite for us for the entirety of our trip. The three golden retrievers that joined us in the tasting didn't hurt either! We would highly recommend it.

I strongly favour small wineries with small volume production focusing on turning out good quality wine over eye dropping yields. The personal nature of sitting with an owner or manager to talk about not just in detail about each tasting but also the operations and realities of running a winery is the reason why I go on a wine tour: otherwise I would just find a wine shop and drink my way through the samples.

Step forward Peter Cellars who runs precisely this from a vineyard that you would have to know was there otherwise you risk driving passed it. The Incredible Adventures Tour Company from San Francisco brought us here for about an hour where we tasted our way from a rose (highly recommended) upwards to Cabernet Sauvignon and ultimately a Syrah. There were about 6 wines all together. Peter talks you through the profile of each wine, the production process, its awards (many are award winning) and of course whether you enjoy it or not.

If this is not enough, there is a family dog that likes to make an appearance at some point.

Wine is of course available for sale should you want to take some away with you. You need to book in advance however as unplanned visits are not accepted. I recommend making this a pit stop together with a collection of other smaller vineyards in the area; I would not want to drive out of San Fran (where you are likely coming from) just to come to this vineyard unless I made such journeys regularly and lived in the area.

My wife and I visited this winery a few months ago. We were part of a group on a full-day wine tour with Platypus Tours. This was the smallest of the wineries we visited on the day. We were greeted by the owner-winemaker who also conducted the tasting session. The owner gave us an explanation of the production processes while we tasted the wines. A good example of a smaller “boutique” style operation producing some top quality wines.

We came with a tour. The owner Peter greeted us and took care of us. He answered a lot of questions by the group and was personable. We liked his wines and ordered some to take home. It was a very personable small winery visit and experience.

I read one review where they commented on the wine glasses. I honestly also noticed that on our visit and I am not sure about how to fix that but I do think that needs to be resolved. It's different than every other winery. Notwithstanding, I still give this excellent rating as the wines were great and the experience provided by Peter the owner/winemaker was so nice.

We were taken to this winery through our booking with City Sightseeing - what a find. Set in the beautiful Sonoma landscape, it was like having drinks with an old friend. Peter, the winemaker, welcomed us and we sat on his tasting patio, along with his adorable dog, Rupert, who loves a game of fetch.

Peter poured the wines himself and they were perfect - so much so, we ordered a half case to be shipped to our home!

Peter was open to questions from our group and engaged in conversation with us. The weather was perfect and it was just the best experience.

Really a unique experience when your tour guide is the owner and the man responsible for actually making the wine you are tasting.

Comfortable and inviting-- a winery that is about hard work and great wine. This is not your typical winery for tasting in the area. It is about a family that loves what they do and produces great wines. Sit on the small barn house patio...learn, sip and enjoy! We visit as part of a tour--might need an appointment but so worth it!
