We stopped at this winery as part of a winery bus tour. There were 39 people and the winery was well prepared to provide a tasting to a large group.
The grounds are beautiful, and the tour included a lot of history about the site...More
One of the first big wineries you see entering Sonoma from the south, which is why we wanted to stop by. Very nice building, from the outside, but not much to see inside. Great views out, but you kind do have to stay inside for...More
Nestled at the crossroads of Napa and Sonoma Counties, this winery sits high and overlooks its beautiful setting. Vineyards surround the building and the grounds boast both a courtyard for relaxed outdoor seating and a terraced area overlooking a pond. We were able to enjoy...More
You can only buy the wine on estate so it felt special to have visited there. They were welcoming. It would have been nice if they had a bit of bread & cheese on site even for purchase at small price as we were hungry...More
Stopped in here as part of an organised wine tour in Sonoma. We had a tour of the winery including the wine caves. Our guide was great, probably the best of the wineries we visited in Sonoma. Wine was good (brought one back to Australia)...More
I was at the Nicholson Ranch Winery with 9 other friends and colleagues this Thursday and we had one of the best winery and vineyard tours that I can recall. The wines were amazing and Mike who was our vineyard and cave tour guide explained...More
We stopped by based on a recommendation from a friend. We had a very friendly greeting and although it is a modest tasting room, we were encouraged. However, after trying a couple of. Chardonnays (Sonoma Coast and Valley) and the same for two Pinot Noirs,...More
Hubby and I had a stop here on our cruise excursion. We tasted 2 different white wines outside as we listened to the history of the winery. We actually learned a lot. The scenery was beautiful. We learned that most wines from California are dry....More

We were on a tour (just 4 or us) and the operator just took us there. But this was in January, so not crowded either. A call ahead is probably smart if you want to take the tour, which was interesting and educational. And Domaine Carneros is close by!

Rehearsal / Welcome Dinner - Sonoma (2 Replies)
Any suggestions on a location to hold for 30-40 people for a rehearsal / welcome reception/dinner? Wedding is being held at Nicholson Ranch the following day.

I'll second Forestvillian's suggestion for the General's Daughter. We dined there in March and it was excellent. I have a couple of photos posted of the exterior of the restaurant in the Review section here. the girl and the fig is another one of our favorites. It is located right on the Sonoma Plaza. Another consideration may be the El Dorado Kitchen at the Hotel El Dorado. I also have some photos of the Lounge and exterior of this restaurant. The decor and ambince is very nice,...More
Wedding at Nicholson Ranch Winery (2 Replies)
We've narrowed our wedding reception locations down to Nicholson. Anyone have any experiences with events held there? Also looking for an outdoor "wine country" setting for the ceremony, any ideas?

I don't have any personal experience with Nicholson Ranch, other than knowing it's a beautiful facility loc'd in a wonderful hillside setting on the edge of the Carneros region. I wanted to suggest that you confer with the wedding events coordinator there for ideas as to where to hold your ceremony since so much depends upon size, proximity, complexity, style and personal tastes--and they will be very familiar with all the options available in the area. Good luck and congrat's!
Request for Napa and Sonoma suggestions (2 Replies)
My husband along with another couple will be staying in Sonoma at a private residence Feb 14th through 17th. We have dinner reservations at Depot Hotel in Sonoma on the 14th, Celadon in Napa on the 15th and El Dorado Kitchen in Sonoma on the 16th. Any comments regarding these restaurants or alternate restaurants are welcomed... I would like to pick 3-4 wineries in Napa to visit on Friday and the same for Sonoma on Saturday. I was thinking of hiring a driver for Napa as well. After reading...More

We very much enjoyed our tastings at Ramey in Healdsburg (not much to see, as it's in an office/warehouse, but a fantastic tasting) and at both Merry Edwards and Hartford Winery (both in the Forestville area). In Napa Valley (northeast of St Helena), you might also consider Viader, which has not only great wines, but incredible views. You've picked some great ones already, however. Have fun!
