If I could, I would be here every single weekend. Jennifer, the manager, is SO attentive to guests. She has recommendations for me the second I walk in the door. As of October, they have updated their outdoor seating and it feels so luxurious!!! This is a must see in Solvang. If you don’t make time for Royal Oaks while you’re in Solvang, you are seriously missing out!!

We were visiting friends in the area and they took us to their favorite winery, Royal Oaks. The wine tasting room is located in the Main Street area of Solvang, CA. The room was open and friendly. Our friends prefer sweet wines and we prefer dry wines. The tasting room selection was set up to accommodate both. I purchased a bottle of Merlot.

Nice selection of wines and a friendly staff. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's on a busy street with big loud trucks driving by constantly. It ruins the atmosphere of the outdoor seating. Otherwise this place is very good.

Originally I would have given this place 5 stars as I joined the winery as a club member. Let me tell you, it all went down hill from there.
At first, everyone was nice & encourage you to join as a member. I loved their sweet fruity wine. Thats where I would've given it 5 stars. But after joining, each visit encounter became to be treating like dirt and that they don't want me there. As you join the club, you pay for 3 bottles of wine (your choice) every other month to be picked up or have delivered with a delivery fee. I chose to pick up in person.
Every time I would go pick up my wine, I always encountered a worker named Celia, the brunette girl with tattoos. She was the one that signed me up. She was only nice to me to sign up but after that she treats me like literally trash. I came in one time with my mom to pick up my wine, Celia and Jenniffer (the manager) were not friendly at all to me when I asked to pick up my wine, and they even ask "are you a club member" and I'm like yes & they were having a bad day getting my wine. My mom suggested I should cancel after that experience. I let it go assuming they were just in a bad mood.
Second time, I came in a hour before closing on a weekday with my friend to taste the wine and sign up. That changed as soon as I walked in with only Celia working. She says "we're closed". My friend looks down at her watch and she says "its only 4:10 & your hours say 5 & you stop wine tasting a half hr before closing. She's like well I have a meeting to get to by 5pm so no tasting today. I was like woah okay can i at least pick up my wine. She responds "are you even a club member?". I responded yes I signed up 6 months ago with you. She barely wanted to help & get my wine but was about to turn me away when she did see I have a pickup. My friend refused to sign up after that encounter how rude Celia was. I said she's just having another bad day let's just move on.
Then my last encounter November 22, I went to go wine taste with my friend who is also a club member. It was a little busy so we sat at a table. Celia was our helper and of course she greets my friend & not me. An hour later, my friend already got her wine & i was trying to ask for my wine but Celia refused to look at me & walked away as soon as she dropped the wine off to my friend. So I had to go up to the bar ask Jenniffer for my wine, Jennifer says she's just too busy to even help me as she's helping other customers serving them wine. She shouts out to Celia to come back out to help. Celia says "i didn't know shes a wine club member". I heard it & i said to myself okay this is 4th encounter with her & she still acts like she doesn't know me or belong there. They both didn't want to help me & jenniffer is a manager too.
So all these encounters I am being treated so poorly, this is it I am canceling. Just before I cancelled, they changed the fee to $100 every other month for 4 bottles & didn't notify any one. I didn't have to pay it. But cancelling was a nightmare too & the final straw. I sent an email just to cancel since that fee increased & I was having too many bottles every other month. My friend was cancelling for the many bottles as well. So I've attached the photos of the email response from the owner to me and my friends.
As you can see the obvious comparison. Mine was short and not professional and not treated as like a valued member. Whereas, my friend is all nice and professional. This got me upset I responded of all the things I've posted above and asked why am I being treated so poorly even by the owner in that email. I've always been nice to them and only asked for my wine. Those emails were sent 1 minute apart.
Also the whole time being a customer, they never sent me an email or invite me to their special wine club member nights they hosted. Other club members received those emails, but I was the only one that didnt.
One time I had an order to pick up, they gave away my order. So the wine you have on hold they don't care if you don't get your order so you have to choose other wines. They don't hold wine for their members. They never check ID so someone else could pick up someones wine.
I had to ask 4 emails to cancel my membership. Owner doesn't respond quickly and could care less. Also they don't answer the phone either. If I were you, don't join this horrible winery club. BEWAREEEEE!!!

GREAT TIME!!! Hands down, one of my favorite wineries! The variety of sweet wines, you cannot go wrong with any of them! The service and hospitality was on point! My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and Jennifer and made our day!!! This will absolutely be our go to winery!!

Loved the variety of the sweet wines... The host was amazing ... My favorite was the Marionberry .... but all were delish !!! They were about to launch it ( Marion berry ) and the host let us try it ... My bf and I love the sweet wines and everywhere we went ... kinda gae us the side eye for asking , but we felt very welcome... Definately will visit again.

My husband and I were strolling around looking for things to do around Solvang & were getting bored of the gift shops around the village. We are not by any means snobby wine people, and definitely gravitate toward sweet dessert wines. Given that it’s Valentine’s Week, I was really excited to find unique wines paired with hand crafted chocolates!!! Best of both worlds in my opinion. Jennifer (And sweet fur baby Stella) was such a great hostess and made my husband, who was defiantly out of his element, feel very comfortable and we both had a very nice time! The wines... tropical nectar, blackjack, cherri, raspberry, pineapple, OMG & the chocolate.... passion fruit, chocolate Buddha, peanut butter!!! This was a very pleasant surprise & I’m really glad we stopped in. Of course we walked out with a bottle of raspberry wine for my mother & sister in law for Valentine’s Day when we get home.

First time in Solvang, taking in the sights around 12 noon. My friend and I walked to the end of the main road and starting our first and only wine tasting room in Solvang, The Royal Oaks. SOOOO good! LOL how much wine can one drink, I think I'm a light weight LOL.
We opted for the Dry Wine Tasting List. Great deal with generous tasting pours plus we ended with a complimentary tasting of one of the Fruit Wines which was fantastic. Our server was very informative, friendly, knowledgeable, not over bearing. The tasting experience was very relaxing and enjoyable.
Atmosphere: bright, clean, Service: excellent, Wines: very good

Great Staff and good wines
This is the place to hangout if you are looking for a cool and contemporary location. Jennifer and Brian are entertaining and are very knowledgeable about their wines and the area. THey even recommended other wineries and taste houses in the area. How professional and refreshing. This place has been a delight for us and this second trip was no different. Fun place to meet and greet others that come in and it really is a beautiful location. Thanks to the team there and we will see ya'll real soon! They made our wedding anniversary weekend grrrrreaaat!
