The views are amazing! The Shasta Cavern Tours is very interesting and an awesome experience. The whole vicinity of Shasta Trinity is really a great place to spend time with nature. There are so many beautiful waterfalls, lakes and caves to explore.

Shasta Lake is gorgeous!!, fun lake to boat, wake board or just swim in. We rent homes in the area that can accommodate our group. Half from Calif. other half from Washington State. We have returned the last 6 years in a row.

This is a place where you must visit - so many views and so many things to do. The locals are friendly and helpful. Also all of the photos we took were scenic and make for really great home-made postcards.

Area is wooded. Summer is hot. Water on cold side. Lots of fingers to lake. What I don't like about it is there are very few beaches. Want to boat camp by lake?, not many places without a steep, dusty hike to the water level....More

very beautiful, but makes only sense if you are having a boat or if you are renting a houseboat there with a big party of people.

We live 5 minutes from the lake and visit frequently. Great for swimming and kayaking! Have also camped and explored the trails.

Shasta Lake is very beautiful. A man made lake set in the mountains of northern California. The whole area is lovely red rock which just adds to the beauty.

We had very little impact apart from you don't need sunscreen and the lake is so, so peaceful and quiet. Saw one other boat going up the Macloud. We found clear mornings with most smoke mid afternoon. You would have to be... More

Feel free to just drive & park once you see the view you want. There are plenty of un-named places to stop for a break or a hike, but you wont find many commercial places to go. Just treat it like any road trip in the... More

redding/lassen details pls, esp for kids (2 Replies)
Hi, We plan to stay in Redding in August for 3-4 nights, and visit Lassen and Shasta Lake areas. The kids are 8 and 11. I've read the basics of the drive through Lassen, and we'll see Bumpass/etc. Questions: 1. I've read the reviews for the chain hotels in Redding and Red Bluff. Anyone know of one that has better mattresses and is more quiet? My husband doesn't sleep well. Any other alternatives? 2. Is there a place (river, lake) where the kids can swim, in or near Lassen?...More

I can just comment that the weather in Reddiung is hot in August. It will not cool off early enough in the evening for sweatshirts. On average August is as hot as July. Expect upper 90's lower 100's. The early morning temps 4-5 am will be in the 60's but it won't cool off enough after sunset to need sweatshirts.

shasta lake houseboating (3 Replies)
We're planning a mini family reunion for 8-10 people and we're interested in houseboating for a 4-day vacation. Only two of the group have done this before so the rest of us would like some information on what's the best time of year, best rental places, what do we need to take with us, etc. Shasta Lake is centrally located for all of us. Would like current reviews as most of the posts are more than two years old. Any information would be appreciated.
