excellent ambiance. I always sit outside with a great view of the patio. You simply cannot beat the music. Always great acts playing.

Driving by, we experienced the most tantalizing fragrances coming from HopMonk. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. No helpful greeting to direct us to our table, a somewhat longish wait before anyone greeted us, pretty much bored/offhand service. All we wanted was burger and fries as we were told by a friend they were to-die-for. Our hamburger was Tiny, the fries were fat and cooked in older oil; so not what we expected at all. So off-putting we did not stay to listen to music or consider dessert or even order another drink. Noisy in a not good way, we felt like we were eating in a train station.
I think it might be a good place for locals who know one another and use it as a gathering place; folks with a not-so-discriminating pallet ... but for us, we enjoy the delicious smells as we drive by and every time decide to keep on going.

If you're looking for very good selection of craft beers and good food to go along with it, you'll find it in HopMonk Tavern. Their Angus beef sliders are very good. The list of craft beer they carry include their own and other local producers.

I well realize that reviews are subjective to the individual tastes of the reviewer. But in addition, one hopes that the reviewer also is knowledgeable about food and food preparation, and has eaten out enough at many types of restaurants and experienced many types of cuisines to become fairly accurate and honest in posting reviews. In my case I come from an east coast family of restaurant owners and I had a catering business for many years.
It is not very often that I give a terrible review, but eating at HopMonk was a really bad experience and I am sorry for that.
A beautiful sunny and warm day brought me to HopMonk for lunch. I was pleased to find a spacious outdoor dining area where there were lots of young families with children as well as couples and singles enjoying the afternoon over lunch for just a cold beer.
The beer list at HopMonk is extensive and I was very pleased with the selection I made.
For lunch I ordered the samosas. Before ordering I had inquired about the preparation and if they were greasy. The waitress said no they are not oily or greasy so I gave them a try. The menu description was very different from what arrived.
Since this was the most expensive of the appetizers or shared offerings on the menu I expected something more substantial and well prepared. Out came a plate with about nine overly deep fried wontons filled with about a scant tablespoon of filling that was mostly corn kernels. The wonton oil saturated dark brown edges were inedible for my taste and the filling was unsatisfying. Outrageous for $12.50
I ordered a portion of sweet potato fries, and a bowl of white potato fries arrived which I sent back and cancelled the replacement offered.
The three veggie stir-fried mix of vegetables was very oily.
Perhaps just unlucky that I ordered the wrong thing. But these were simple selections that were badly prepared and not to my taste.
My guess is that the popularity of HopMonk is due to the beers and ambiance and the food is secondary and appeals to a much younger crowd that does not give much thought to the quality of the food.
For serious food enthusiasts, I do not recommend HopMonk Tavern.

I am a big fan of Hopmonk. My wife and I routinely make a stop here during the summer months on our way to our cabin on the Russian River. This place is always busy and during the summer seems to have a band on the back patio. We've sat both inside and outside, but usually take first available since there always seems to be a wait. If you are a beer fan, you will love the beer selection. That have a great selection of craft beers on tap. I've had some of the Hopmonk beers and they are just okay. They have better beers available such as Pliny the Elder from Russian River Brewery. The food is good, but is a little pricey for what it is. The grilled cheese and tomato soup are excellent as are the pulled pork and fish n chips. Again the food is good, but should be a little less. Hopmonk is definitely a place to stop at if you are in Sebastopol or just driving through the town on 116.

Hotel recommended and we weren’t disappointed. Unique burgers/fries quite good. I tried the risotto surprised to find it on a menu. It was asparagus and shrimp — delicious! Couple of cold beers helped the oppressive heat. We were lucky to sit by a fan.

Hopmonk remains one of our favorites. Great beer-I had their lichee sour and is was a smash. Food is pretty good bar+ style. Their French fries are home fries and tasty. Music many nights.

A good place to go on a nice day to sit outside and enjoy a good meal. Indoors is a bit dark and noisy for my taste, but the outdoor dining is a treat. The food is varied and satisfying-bar food taken to a slightly higher standard. Service is good, but stick to the beers (as the name Tavern might indicate) because the few mixed drinks I have ordered have been very disappointing.

Ok, with bistro food, cafe type atmosphere. Rare late night place in Sebastoplo. Adequate menu and beverages
