This is one of my favorite places for hiking and watching surfers in the cold water! The parking is free and easy, with plenty of spots.

Nice big beach; not for swimming or kids as is dangerous surf; nice public restrooms; great stop while driving the Marin Headlands loop. Kind of tricky to get here since have to approach from Sausalito thru a tunnel that is only way in / out. The views from Headlands are great and definitely worth the time to drive around, stop here for lunch and walk in the beach,

visit this beach but read up on the geology first. The geologic history of this whole area is absolutely amazing. On this beach you'll find fine grains of sand on one end and pebbles on the other end. The size of the grains increases exponentially with every step. The view from this beach is beautiful. This is not a swimming beach, and do not let kids get in the water. It is dangerous. There's a great opportunity to hike from this beach south over the hill to a small quiet secluded beach.

There are numerous trails at this beach. You can watch the surfers, go in the water, or just go for a hike. The hikes take you to gunneries built in 1938. Very interesting and not challenging. Public restrooms available. No charge parking.

The draw of this beach is its proximity to SF and the Golden Gate Bridge. Go through the tunnel to Ft Baker past Rodeo lagoon and on to the beach good running and hiking there as well
