The tour of the original Heath Ceramics studio in Sausalito is a brief survey of mid-century craftsmanship in the U.S. That starts with the building itself, designed to bring light and spaciousness to the areas where the ceramics workers created stunning, simple, elegant and beautiful pieces of functional art - cups, plates, trays, candle holders and tiles...which are still made... I have a special passion for Heath ceramics. Handmade, feels right in the hand, the colors are spectacular. It''s simply the best, in my opinion. So, I finally visited the site in Sausalito and loved it! Welcoming staff, gorgeous products. Thank you, Heath and staff!

This tour was amazing! Such craftsmanship! It really makes you appreciate the product so much more. Make reservations beforehand from their website. There s also a store with first and second quality items and they shipped my items.

The boneyard at Heath Ceramics is a treat with well organized and well priced first and second quality tile. The selection varies from week to week so check their website for color and size selections. We lucked out and found enough stone white matte tile and trim pieces to do our entire bathroom. Heath Ceramics seconds dishes and plates are... More

I visit Heath every time I'm in the Marin area. I was introduced to their wonderful production factory several years ago when I took a tour with my family. If you're a "process junkie," you'll be very interested to see how the table ware is molded, fired and glazed at the Sausalito plant. The factory store is filled with well-designed... More

A San Francisco design classic, the factory shop was fascinating to browse. Well laid out with iconic ceramics, I just wish I had more money. The second offer great value and it's worth spending time at the far right to look through the collection, and calling to ask whether any of your desired colour or type have been laid out... More

We were driving into Sausalito for lunch and visited the factory store of Heath Ceramics. It was an interesting store with a variety of goods besides ceramic products. I particularly fancied the ceramic house numbers in neutraface font. I was short on 2 numbers in black. The staff checked and confirmed there is no availability in other stores nor online.... More

Took a tour of the Heath Ceramics factory and learned SO much. A great San Francisco tradition that has been maintained and continues to thrive. And the bonus is that you get to shop in the factory store, where you get great discounts on their "seconds". I highly recommend this if you're in Sausalito, or just have an interest in... More

This is a sleeper free tour in Sausalito. Not hard to find if you have GPS, in an office/industrial park setting. There is an excellent factory store with good buys on their ceramic dinner ware, as well as other local artists' accessories. Free tour took only about 45 minutes. Cute young ladies give the factory tour, taking you from history... More

We were lucky to be in town during the weekend of the Heath-wide open-studio tours. We went to the 18th St. location in the Mission District (convenient via #12 municipal bus), and took a tour led by no other than the owner of the company. He gave us a marvelous behind-the-scenes tour of the plant, which now makes the attractive... More
