This review is about the hiking trail starting from the John Nicholas trailhead in the Sanborn County Park. The trailhead is located on Black road accessible from Highway 17. Black Road is narrow and windy and certain sections are designated as one lane only. Parking at the trailhead is roadside only and is limited. But if you can overcome the challenge to get there, you will find a trail that is mostly in the shade with tall trees everywhere. The trail is wide and level and is on a slight downhill incline towards the Lake Ranch Reservoir where one can find birds and other wildlife. If you are looking for an easy one to 2 hours hike in this area, this is one trail that should be considered.

We went to Sanborn Park. We were very happy to see the deer in the meadow. There is a campground and picnic area. Its a good place for a walk or just relax and play outside. This is a very pretty park.

20191106 Sanborn Park, Saratoga, CA My husband and I hitched up the Carson and camped in 3 places over a week's time. Sanborn Park was our 3rd stop on 'the tour'. We were Greeted by Park Rangers at the gate, who were very helpful with clear guidance about the RV campsites. The Ranger’s advice and information over the following days was most useful, particularly about hiking trails. Beautiful park, great facilities. Clean bathrooms with showers, free to campers. The showers are separate, in their own security door enclosure in the bathroom buildings. My husband and I were able to shower together in the very spacious private shower rooms, which had hot and cold water valves, a bench and good controls. Hiking Trails and Views adjacent the RV camping area. Trail maps available at the trail head. Wild Turkeys, deer and beautiful large grassy areas. Clean and well maintained. Just 3m to The Village of Saratoga. Though narrow, the last mile of road (Sanborn Road) is in decent condition. We were towing an 18’ toyhauler and were able to navigate the road without trouble. Each RV space has it's own table and charcoal grill. The close proximity of spots made for some nice visiting with 'neighbours' and a pleasant community atmosphere. Children were able to ride their bikes and scooters in this slightly sloped, paved area. We shall return.

Sanborn Park is located off highway 9 a couple of miles from downtown Saratoga. We hike here and only have to do a couple of miles for a hard workout because of the steep hills. But the views are wonderful with lots of redwood trees. The park has picnic areas and overnight camping sites with a lot of parking spaces...parking is $6.00 ... there are several options on the trails from fairly easy to the difficult one we use.

Sanborn park is less than 15 minutes from my home in Saratoga. Once you are there in the redwoods, you cannot believe the hectic pace of Silicon Valley. The traffic just melts away. It can get a little crowded on the weekends. You can find solitude during m-thurs.
