This is a unique casual place to visit. Even if you do not want to ride a horse, you can visit those in the stables, watch people learn to ride under their huge open air dome, and if you luck out, you can watch gymkahna (gymnastics on horseback) competitions. The winery there offers tastings of high end wines made on the premises and a very interesting collection of photos of the founders of the winery who was a test pilot! Very friendly. If you want to ride, you need reservations in advance. No food for sale on the premises.…

I visited Garrod Farm stables in early Jan and I had a trail ride to myself with one member of staff leading and one behind. It was absolutely beautiful to see the vineyards and the views on the trail yes but unfortunately we were back after 45 mins (I paid for the hour ride) I asked the lady on reception this and she said that the same trail is done each time, sometimes it takes less time than an hour. We enjoyed an hour trail ride on a lovely Sunday morning. Our trail guides Katherine and Reed were very helpful and quite pleasant. The staff took extra care personally assuring each rider was comfortable during the ride.

The guided trail ride takes you through Fremont Older Open Space Preserve which is very nice with scenic views of the Bay. The staff were very friendly and the horses seem well taken care of. Previously, I've been going to Sea Horse Ranch in Half Moon Bay. There, you have the advantage of riding on the beach with gorgeous ocean views but they don't allow you to take a camera or take pictures. Their horses weren't groomed and seemed ragged. I'm sure they were okay but it gave the impression that they weren't as well taken care of.…

I love everything about Garrod Farms. Their lessons are amazing, their horses are absolute angels even if they do happen to misbehave every once in a while. The horses are prohibited from working more than four hours a day. When they are sick or injured, they are given the proper care necessary and don't have to work. They get fed at least twice a day and you can tell that they are well fed. The people working there love it and love the horses. Although owning forty plus horses means that you can't have top of the line equipment that is custom made for that horse, the staff make sure that the horses have tack that fits them the best out of everything they have. The trails are beautiful and the views are breathtaking. I whole-heartedly recommend taking a trip to Garrod Farms whenever you have time.…
