Cool, industrial style brewery with everything - Pilsner, Stout, Sour, and IPA’s. Liked the Juicy IPA’s the best. This seems to be a popular watering hole, and for good cause. Spacious interior, nice long wood slab bar, and foosball table. Small selection of snacks, no food truck the day we visited. This is a very good brewery option in Santa Rosa.

A bunch of us on a self inflicted (guided) tour of Santa Rosa Pubs. This one was 3rd in our travels. Kinda in a warehouse district but pretty cool inside. Big and airy inside with a long bar. Monday afternoon it was getting busy. They had a large menu of beers to choose from. Between 6 of us we tried about 10 of them and gave all a thumbs up. The place is clean inside including the restrooms. Our table was right inside the door, a tall bar type, that you could sit or stand at. They have a old water dispenser right next to the door, so plenty of cold water if you want it. On the walls is some local art for sale...kinda a local vibe thing. Good solid pub.

I am giving this place five stars for two main reasons: (1) They open at 2 on a Tuesday, which is a lot earlier than most breweries; and (2) They did their first two can releases ever on my birthday this year (as evidence by the posters on the wall). I do reserve my right to change this if I ever get to go and stay for more than one beer. The location is what I like in a brewery. A warehouse that has been fussied up as a place you want to hang out. Large. Open. Clean. Games available. Solid. I only had time for one beer. I asked the bartender for her favorite IPA. She gave me one that was not one of their “base” beers, which I respect. Most servers stick to the script so I appreciate the willingness to serve me her favorite beer. It was fantastic. Wish I could remember the name. The service was excellent. This seems like the type of place I would want to hang out and enjoy the people. I will be back and I cannot wait to go back and really experience the place.

Nice brewery in an industrial area, good beers and fun atmosphere with games. It was our last stop on our brewery tour, so unfortunately the beers, though good, don’t really stand out in my mind, I will have to go back!

Breweries are so numerous in the Santa Rosa area that one may have difficulty to deciding which are most deserving of a visit. If time permits, I recommend visiting several but if you have time for only one or two, then a brewery to rank highly on your list is Cooperage Brewing. Cooperage is a little different from what I expected. I visited here when I was on a brewery tour of the area in support of my blog, Great Beer Now and based on the name, I was expecting it to have a theme focused on barrels and cask making and design, since this is what the word Cooperage means. However, it is quite different from that. The beers are named after movies and entertainers and there is a definite emphasis on art, with small and large works of art adorning the walls. There is even a price tag on some of them, so if you like what you see and want to take home a souvenir, you can do so with the right amount of cash. Cooperage brews many fine beers and I was most impressed with the IPA and double IPA on tap, of which there were several. I also love the large, spacious tap room. I like the added elbow room and appreciate knowing that I don’t have to be overly protective of my glass of beer out of fear that someone might bump into me and cause a massive spill. You have lots of breathing space at Cooperage Brewing, which is a definite plus. Another cool thing about Cooperage is that it’s dog and kid friendly. You will find families here and dogs, hanging out, watching sports, and playing games. They have a large number of board games available with many of the popular classics, such as Clue, Life, Connect Four, and others. Oh, and keep in mind that there is no kitchen preparing food. However, they do sell snacks and it is common to find a food truck outside. Cooperage Brewing is located in an industrial area, which is not the type of place you would expect to find a brewery. But the trip to Cooperage Brewing is easily worth it and sine nothing in Santa Rosa is all that far away anyhow, your gps will have you here in no time. From the beer to the games to the personnel, Cooperage Brewing has all the earmarks of a pleasant place and it belongs on every beer lover’s short list of breweries to visit in Sonoma County.
