Tremendous visit, tasting, wines and hospitality! My favorite winery. It’s privately owned and operated and absolutely done right. We joined their Wine Club after our first visit in June. James was amazing and entertaining host. Their Pinot’s are top shelf... Cohn, Martaella, La Pommerie and the Russian River... we also enjoyed their Chardonnays... and the Zinfandel! Great facilities, lovely views over the Martaella Vineyard and amazing hospitality. An absolute treasure!…

Benovia highlighted our seven (7) wine tasting stops from Paso Robles, Calistoga and Santa Rosa. The winery is small and intimate. Their most excellent single vineyard Pinot Noirs were so good that we joined their wine club! Our host, David, was wonderful. We look forward to returning whenever we’re in the area. …

It might be that this was/is our first trip after 4 months of starting at our backyard, but this was the standout tasting of a 3-day trip to Sonoma. My wife and I go to Sonoma often, and this was one of the best tastings we've had in years. The pinots are truly outstanding (and we're picky), and all the wines are top-notch. But what really stuck out in this world was the thoughtfulness of the host David. While we were there there were 2 outdoor tables, quite distant. He pointed out the 2 porta potties, and told us we were the left one, so no sharing bathrooms. He poured extra pourings, partially because we showed interest (we bought quite a bit and joined the club), partially because this is a recovery time. David is very knowledgable and has great hosting skills. Wish we'd found this place years ago.…

We thought that an hour would be more than enough time to taste our way through the offerings at Benovia, but we were wrong -- very wrong! The engaging staff (shout out to James and Michael!) were insightful guides to Benovia's offerings. The relaxing venue (with a fire in the fireplace and a fox darting through the nearby vines) put us at ease. And the sumptuous and supple Pinot Noirs (and a few other surprises!) left our taste buds pining for more! Two-and-a-half-hours later, our aggressive itinerary was in shambles, but the wines and the memories we found at Benovia will demand that we come back soon!…

Following is a letter we wrote to the proprietor of Benovia Winery. Thank you for making our visit to Benovia so enjoyable last Saturday. We spent the entire weekend exploring Sonoma wineries, eating fine food and taking in everything the region has to offer. But nothing compares to our wine tasting experience at Benovia. It was phenomenal! Kudos to Michael McCauley for making our visit not only informative but also a pleasant, relaxing, way to spend an afternoon. Indeed, Mike is truly a Hospitality Specialist "par excellence"! He's also the most knowledgeable person we've ever met in the industry. A renaissance man who knows many things about a multitude of subjects. We loved every minute of the time we spent with him. Not only does Benovia produce some of the finest wines in the Russian River valley, you also host a tasting opportunity which goes far beyond anything we have ever experienced. Thanks also to Chris, for showing us around the vineyards and giving us a private lesson in both viticulture as well as the art of pruning. You can count on us coming back and next time we'll be sure to bring along our friends. Best regards, Jim Brown and Abby Everson Richmond, CA…
