Welcome the Max Napa Tours! We offer full-day Private wine tours to Napa Valley, Northern Sonoma or Sonoma Valley. Tours are done in luxury SUV's, with seating for up to six people. We pick up directly from most hotels in San Francisco or Wine Country, and will put together a unique itinerary based on group preferences. The same tour has never been done twice! We typically visit small family-owned vineyards, producing handcrafted wines only available through the tasting room. Winemakers will greet you as friends. You are also able to make specific winery requests. All guides are certified Sommeliers, providing you the perfect balance of knowledge and fun!

The Best Private Wine Tasting Tour Anywhere!

Max Napa Tours is the BEST and it's all because of Max. He is supremely knowledgeable about wines, winemaking and all of the wineries in Napa, Sonoma and everywhere around this area. He grew up in a wine family, loves wine and has been giving tours for more than a decade. My two friends and I, all of us women in our 50s, booked a tour of Sonoma wineries. One of us had been to Muir Woods as a child and wanted to start the tour revisiting this area, so Max sent me the link to buy the parking pass, told me what time we would be there and led us on a brief tour of Muir Woods prior to taking us to Sonoma. He also discussed the different wineries in Sonoma and selected 3 based on our interests. He organized the itinerary and sent me links to purchase those tastings/tours that had to be purchased beforehand. Max arrived at our hotel 15 minutes early in a perfectly maintained Ford Excursion stocked with water and a cooler to hold our wine purchases, where he patiently waited while we got ourselves organized. Then we were off. On the drive to Muir Woods he pointed out where we were and discussed the area. After his tour of Muir Woods, our first stop was Obsidian Ridge, which was a great experience. We had lunch at FolkTable, which was delicious. Fresh greens and a wide variety of locally sourced, organic food in a beautiful area just steps from Obsidian Ridge. Max sat with us during our tasting at Obsidian Ridge - without tasting even a drop of wine and politely declining our offer to try some wine -- and then we invited him to join us for lunch. After lunch, Max drove us to Gundlach Bundschu where he had selected the winter cave tour for us. Max left us while we enjoyed the tour and then took us to our final location, Domaine Carneros. At Domaine Carneros we enjoyed flights of sparkling wine and pinot noir as well as a very special white wine that had just debuted that afternoon. Max sat with us while we sampled the wine, and again, did not even take a sip of alcohol. Max was supremely patient as we kept him there an hour more than was scheduled. He never complained or seemed put out, so we simply offered to pay him for one extra hour, which he genuinely appreciated. Max made the tour and you cannot go wrong if you hire him. He has the knowledge and experience to plan whatever trip you want.

Best trip to Napa EVER!

I want to thank Max Napa Tours for making our vacation so amazing. Specifically our driver Evan was absolutely amazing and made the trip so memorable for us. He went out of his way to stop by the Golden Gate Bride and take our pictures and drive through some popular spots in San Francisco. On the ride to Napa, he pointed out places of interest and gave us the history of Yountville and other popular nearby spots. He noticed a famous bakery Bouchon without a line of people and stopped immediately so we could buy pastries. Once in Napa, he educated us on the valley of Napa and surrounding hills, dormant volcano and other interesting facts. We loved Evan so much we asked him to be our tour guide next October when we come back. I would highly recommend Max Wine Tours and ask for Evan. He is the best!

Amazing wine tour

Spent a fantastic day touring 3 beautiful wineries in the Napa Valley with Max. I believe we were one of the first tours Max has done since California reopened after the Covid shut down. We were so fortunate to have Max as our tour guide. He is an absolutely fountain of knowledge about wine , San Francisco and the Napa wine region. He hand picked the wineries we would visit and his selections were spot on. After a very short period of time, we felt like we were touring with a very knowledgeable friend. His vehicle was immaculate, comfortable and roomy. He had water bottles on ice and room in the cooler for our wine purchases. He knew the temperature on the day of our tour was going to be in the high 90 s and he organized our tour to allow us to be as comfortable as possible. The tour was an intimate experience for myself and my three long time girl friends. His years of experience operating tours in the Napa Valley was evident through his interaction with the staff at all 3 wineries we visited. I am so happy I selected Max Napa Tours to provide this wonderful experience for us. Highly recommended and I will be back. See you in Sonoma Max!!!

A Wine Tour with a Friend

This is the third time I have personally used Max's services. The first time, I didn't know much at all about the area so he asked me some questions so he could pick the wineries. That was twelve years ago. His choices were bang on, kindling my love for Sonoma. The next time we used his services to go to Napa. Again, he picked the majority of the wineries, focusing on some of the smaller, still independent houses. They were all hits. #stillloveSonomathough

This past time was the first time we've been back to wine country since COVID. Unlike the previous two times, I selected three stops. He recommended a fourth based on our collaboration. We brought a couple of friends with us because what's better than wine? Well, wine shared with friends of course!

Max did most of the bookings except where you had to pay up front. Each winery had to be prebooked - gone are the days of just driving up for a sneaky tipple. He managed the entire schedule.

Day of, he picked us up on time, and kept us on schedule. I think that was the hard part because once you get started, it's so very easy to lose track of time.

I've recommended Max's services to a few other people, two of which I know have taken his tour. Everyone loves it. He specializes in Italian wines, too, so if you want to discuss Nebbiolo, this is your guy. We've developed a relationship with Max over the years that I'm hopeful this review will help pay forward just a bit.

Best Tour Guide in Napa Valley!

My wife and I booked Max for a weekend tour of Napa Valley to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary and we could not be more pleased with our experience. We never visited Napa before and relied on Max's expert inputs and recommendations for the best local wineries to tour. We also received a few winery recommendations from friends ahead of time and Max was more than willing to accommodate. He took care of everything from planning out the day to recommendations for local lunch spots to booking each wine tour ahead of time. Each morning Max arrived at our hotel, always punctual, and drove us to and from each winery. Along the way he would entertain us with interesting facts and tidbits about wine and Napa. He is extremely knowledgeable about wines, wine culture, the history or wine making in Napa, details about weather patterns and how they affect the growth of the grapes, diffences in the soils at each AVA, etc. My wife and I loved every minute of our tour and cannot wait to book him again for our next visit! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! You will not be disappointed.

Great private Napa tour!

Max doesn’t pick up in San Francisco but explained how to hop on the ferry to Vallejo for pickup. He asked us about our tastes and interests and scheduled three wonderful wineries to visit (after offering choices and considering my feedback). He sat with us during the tastings and really added to the dialogue with each winery host. He had lunch recommendations ready and then preordered our selections to keep us on schedule. He’s very very good and we will hire him again the next time we come. We’ll likely stay in Napa next time because it’s so beautiful.

Amazing, curated tour!

A group of four of us visited Sonoma Valley and spent a day touring with Max. He was able to bring us to two very unique wineries with fantastic experiences. In both wineries we were the only group there. We also requested a more popular spot which we ended the day with and Max was able to provide more insight to the wines and elevate the experience there. We highly recommend this tour and letting Max show you around!

Two great days in Napa / Sonoma with Max.

We had two great days with Max wine tasting at a variety of vineyards in Napa and Sonoma. He did a great job pulling together a fun itinerary that included both small and midsize wineries. Our party of six fit comfortably in his vehicle, and he handled all the details. We had a very "VIP" experience and drank some fantastic wine. One highlight was our picnic on the grounds at Coursey Graves followed by a tour of the operation and amazing wine tasting with Joann! Highly recommeded.

Fourth Time with Max

Outstanding as always with Max. He always sets the itinerary based on our preferences. This was especially difficult during Covid. However, we felt very safe and the places were outstanding. We will be back again. Thanks Max!

No better way to see Napa/Sonoma!

My husband and I did a private tour of Napa with Max for our wedding anniversary and cannot recommend him highly enough. Max helped us pick a winery itinerary based on our preferences and we thought they were all excellent picks. He made a reservation for lunch at a great local place and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. Max's car was comfortable and plenty big for the 2 of us (or larger groups). He was fun and outgoing - I would highly recommend!
