Anyone interested in plants will enjoy this site commemorating the work of famed horticulturist Luther Burbank, who introduced over 800 new plant varieties, including the Idaho Potato. The site includes an acre of gardens with many of the naturalist's creations, a beautiful greenhouse he built in 1889, and his Greek Revival home.

Luther Burbank is a central figure in Santa Rosa's history. His work with horticulticulture was most innovative. His home and grounds showcase his love for the temperate climate surrounding the area, which was capable of growing specialized plants envisioned by Luther Burbank.

Our Californian friends thought we would like this place and how right they were. We had never heard of Luther Burbank but his place in the botanical history of America is assured and we are now better informed of his great achievements from lowly beginnings. Our guide Scott was the splitting image of a smaller Burl Ives and was dressed... More

We have been followers of Luther Burbank for years. While int he area we wanted to stop and see the home and gardens. They are nice and showcase many of his hybrids. There really is not much to see or do other than that. The house tour is extra. They don't let you go into the house unless you purchase... More

Do you have an interest in history or love to garden? The Luther Burbank home and gardens has both. At present the yard still has examples of garden beds that Mr. Burbank would have used to test out seedlings. He was self taught and developed a process to produce interesting and new varieties of flowers and fruits. There is a... More

If Luther Burbank had a better PR agent like Ford or Edison, you would see longer chapters on him in history books. When you have dinner tonight, you will most likely eat something that Burbank modified in his garden (or possibly the rose centerpiece). The gardens are beautiful no matter what time of year you visit. During the non winter... More

The gardens open early (8am) before the museum and house (10am) but you can appreciate Luther Burbank's life and work just by strolling around the 1.6 acres of plants and flowers. So impressive to see what an impact he had on hybridizing and botany.

Located in the town of Santa Rosa is this jewel of a piece of American history. Luther Burbank was a botanist who developed many of the flowers and plants that beautify our lives and changed the kinds of foods we eat. His home and garden are open to view with a well done tour inside his home. Burbank was a... More

Visited too early for all to be in bloom. A bit overgrown in spots. Maybe a return visit later in spring would be better.

You may do a self guided tour or take the docent led tour through the grounds, home and greenhouse. We learned a good deal about the man, his outlook, work and accomplishments. Charming home and gardens. Well worth the visit.
