This is a terrific bikeway, as it passes some of the best beaches in Los Angeles County. On the weekends, however, it becomes severely crowded Go during the week for maximum fun.

We rented bikes and rode to Venice Beach. It was so much fun. The weather was perfect, sunny with a wonderful breeze. Path is so safe and you pass skaters, volley ball players. There was so much to see and you don’t have to speed,...More

The place is alive with activity every day. Makes me wonder if anyone works in the city. Great to walk, or hire a bike or scooter if you are a visitor. Beach was empty and the sea was fantastic if you fancy a dip. One...More

Path is good for the most part. Just be aware of your surroundings. You may have people run out in front of you if they are not paying attention or cyclists that are flying by next to you. Not too fond of the Venice area...More

Didn’t do the whole 26 Miles but did Santa Monica pier to Dockwieler beach, well marked bike path, flat ride, toilets and shops along the way. Marina del Rey was a standout, saw some seals at Fisherman’s village.

Rented bikes from just behind pier and made our way along to Venice Beach. Pricing was reasonable and they only charged for the part of the hour used rather than the whole hour. You pay at the end. Enjoyed this as a way of people...More

Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a
balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a
thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers,
roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the
famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles
weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa
Monica pier spins high above the water, while park
revelers scream with delight riding the roller

I do not know where Gladstone is. I agree with the other answers that you can wade in the water along the route wherever you choose. You just have to exit the path and lock bikes up and head towards the water.

Further to your query there are periodic signs and you can start on it anywhere. It runs along the beach except for about a mile where it goes inland for about a 1/4 mile just south of Washington Blvd. If you’re going to be... More
