About
Providing a premiere 6 pac sport fishing adventure aboard the Taylor-Gene, a 34' Hatteras sportfisher. We are located in Santa Cruz within the Monterey Bay of California. We target King Salmon, Halibut, Lingcod, Rockfish, White Seabass, Albacore and Bluefin Tuna. All bait, tackle and gear is provided, we are fully licensed and US Coast Guard approved. We cater to children and novice fisherman alike. Offering day and evening charters.

What can I say, Joe’s a swell dude. He had the party loaded up and headed out before the sun even peeked over the horizon. It was late November, and we weren’t sure what the weather or bite would look like, but Joe put us over the fish. Next thing you know, rockfish and lingcod started hooking up, and we brought in some decent fatties. Over the course of the day, the weather warmed up nicely, and we learned some great tips and techniques for catching lingcod. Nothing I’ll share here of course! But if you want some great lessons from the master himself, and come home with some good eatin’, I suggest you schedule a trip on the Taylor Gene yourself. You and your family or friends will have a wonderful time hunting for “the big one”!

This is the second time I have been on Captain Joe's boat. My friends and I had an amazing time. We caught halibut, ling cod, and rockfish. The Captain made this trip super easy by having all the lines ready to go. We caught some live bait (squid and smelt) which was also pretty fun. He was extremely helpful to those of us who had never gone on this type of fishing and knew where to go to ensure the best day possible. I look forward to booking my next trip with him. Captain Joe was also pretty damn entertaining and kept me in stitches while we fished. Great trip.

Captain Joe meet us 6:00am in the morning at the dock. Ocean is calm in the bay. He found the fishing spot very quickly. We have a party of 6. 1-3 fishes every minutes. Yellow tail, rock fish, red snapper… Slowed down after about an hour. We tried several other spots also got good catches. Kids are very happy. Their first off shore fishing experience, thank you!

Stellar experience all the way around!! From signing up, until getting all the fish cleaned, everything could not POSSIBLY have been better!! Outstanding customer service and attention to detail! The captain and his wife were simply wonderful in every way! And he absolutely knows where to go so you will catch fish after fish after fish!!! Thank you, Chartle Charters! We’ll be back!!

Booked this trip to take my wife and 4 teenagers. Captain Gregory Gomez was an awesome captain. We had live bait and he was very knowledgeable about the fish and what to use to catch them. The boat was very clean. Highly recommend. We are definitely booking again.

We went out Friday morning with Greg Gomez who was AWESOME!
Great boat, great gear. Greg was great with some of the guys who had never been Depp sea fishing before. He aught us how to fish, filet and do everything in between. Highly recommend this company for future trips.

I’ve been going out on the waters off Santa Cruz with Captain Joe for 7-8 years now. My kids have been going with me since they were 5; Captain Joe is great with the kids. We always catch tons of fish and always have a great time.
We typically go once or twice a year, always with Captain Joe. We went in November 2017 on a combination crab pull / near shore fishing trip and caught 22 large Dungeness crab and tons of rockfish. We went out again this past weekend (July 2018) and caught several huge ling cod and limits on rock fish (10 per person); then we switched to halibut fishing and caught three halibut and a bunch more ling cod and rock fish. It was 5 hours of non-stop action.
The boat, the Taylor Gene, is a great fishing boat. Captain Joe keeps her clean and in good working order. The fishing equipment is in great shape; we had one or two new rods and reels for our most recent trip.
Captain Joe does a great job cleaning the fish and sending you home with bags filled with cleaned fish, ready to cook and eat.
I highly recommend Captain Joe to anyone looking for a great day of action on the water.

I highly recommend Chartle Charters for families with children. We took our 5, 6, and 7 year olds out to the sea expecting a fun trip where we put a few lines in the water. Little did we know that this 4 hour tour would be a full soup to nuts fishing lesson. The kids were thrilled from the moment that we stepped on the boat and they were able to play with the live bait and learn about everything that was to come. We ended up with a gorgeous, relaxing day and learned how to do everything from drop the lines to cleaning and prepping the filets. We even have weeks worth of dinner now stored in our freezer! It was so amazing to teach the kids where our food comes from and how much work is involved in the process. The highlight was a HUGE ling cod who had a big belly full of food. We were curious what was inside and discovered THREE octopi (at least 8 inches long each) in there! The captain and his mate were so friendly, helpful, and great with the kids. They even opened up our wine so we could sit and relax while they were on the deck with the kiddos! Best afternoon ever!

Had a magnificent day on the water with Captain Greg. He took us right out to the deep water where the fish were, knowing that the inshore spots were a little played out. My uncle and friend from the UK, brother, and work buddy all hooked in fast and furious. Caught some great ling cod, tons of rockfish, and even a sole. Greg's a top notch captain, and was willing to work the boat, take care of the tackle, and even chop the bait to keep us pulling. Greg expertly filleted the huge pile of fish while we grabbed a beer and a chowder in Johnny's watched him work (decadent!) Highly recommended - we're all back at the house now ready to grill up some of that fish.

Catching a fish is never guaranteed, but with Captain Joe, it's as close as you can get. We ended up with three nice sized salmon and had a exciting day on the Monterey Bay.
