We have seen the To Honor Surfing Monument on multiple occasions, Since it is October which is the month of Halloween in the United States, we saw a pumpkin placed as the head of the surfer statue today.

Its a nice statue of a surfer and the Halloween touch was whimsical.

It doesn't think it owns the break. It doesn't yell at other surfers (let alone kayakers). It doesn't have a drug problem. It's nice looking, but doesn't strut. It does its job even when surf is up. Heck, as far as surfers are concerned, this statue is one heck of a role model.

This statue pays homage to the surfer - a unique spirit.

This statue is near the south end of West Cliff Drive, overlooking the Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park to the south and Cowell's Beach directly below. Surfers can be seen here when the waves are good.

On the other side of the road and a little farther along West Cliff Drive is a church. It was used as a location in the movie "Chasing Mavericks". Again, just another bit of trivia.

Stop and take in this statue.

When in Santa Cruz and we see surfing we think of natives, yet the first surfers were from out of the area. Read aboutit.

Worth a stop as you walk on West Cliff Drive. Locals will put seasonal accoutrements on the surfer. The backdrop of the Pacific, Wharf and surfers in the water is camera worthy for sure.

Come for the statue. Bring your own drink, snack. Stick around and watch the surfers and locals (by "locals" i mean sea otters and sea lions sometimes dolphins). This is a spot right down the road from the surf museum and right up the road from the wharf/pier. There is always a bit of a breeze and sun. Great for jogging/walking in that area.

Since this is on the cliff drive, we saw it. Not sure if it would be a particular destination, unless you want a selfie with the neat statue

Nice beach area to walk along and take pictures. You can watch surfers from anywhere in the area and have some memorable moments at the statue taking pictures with it.

The surfer status is perched on a beautiful spot on Santa Cruz's West Cliff walking trail, with views of the wharf and Boardwalk in one direction and of Steamer Lane's surfers in the other. This spot with a bench is a great place to start or finish your walk on the West Cliff trail, which stretches from the Dream Inn next to the Wharf to Natural Bridges State Park, and passes beautiful beaches, arches carved from stone, and more.
