My sons from back east planned a visit to celebrate family birthdays. My granddaughters love where their Mimi lives and are always up for anything. Had a great morning walk the entire West Cliff Drive.

We drove this and walked it on a sometimes rainy afternoon. We really enjoyed watching the Surfers we also walked out to the end of The Wharf and enjoyed birds and the seals

Every trip to Santa Cruz we do this!! From the wharf you just head up the hill to West Cliff Drive. We always drive to the end—Natural Bridges State Park. It’s fun to drive along the road where every home has an ocean view—and so...More

It's not a long drive, maybe a couple of miles long, but it's beautiful, right from near Cowells beach to the end near Natural Bridges state park. The cliff edges are beautiful, giving fab views on the Pacific, with sea life & birds galore around....More

Great place to decompress and have a long walk either alone or with friends. Benches are available at beautiful lookouts. Summers can be quite busy, but it’s great for people and dog watching.

Advice on drive from SF to LA (nights in Monterey/Morro Bay) (8 Replies)
Hi, we are 2 students who would be embarking on our west coast road trip in July, and would like to ensure that we've planned adequate time for the coastal drive. We've used google maps to estimate the driving times, but may not have accurately factored in traffic and stops along the way. Day 1 (SF): Drive through Golden Gate Park, Land's End Trail, depart SF at 1pm, stop by at Santa Cruz (West Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz Boardwalk). Reach Monterey at 4pm: aquarium, cannery row. We would've...More

Day 1: You will not reach Monterey by 4:00 pm with a stop in Santa Cruz. Therefore, you will not have ample time for visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium, so skip it. Day 2: Probable, even with the late start. Good thing we have longer daylight hours in July. Day 3: Doable. Stay in SB until 7:00 pm to avoid the heavy commute traffic in Santa Barbara, Ventura/Oxnard and into the LA Basin.
Santa Cruz lunch question (10 Replies)
Planning day trip to Santa Cruz driving down from Castro Valley next Monday - have never been to SC and want to drive out West Cliff Drive - is there a restaurant for lunch on West Cliff Drive - if not, can TA recommend one at another location? We have looked at website for Crow's Nest and Johnny's Harborside, and realize they are on the other side of town. Thank you.

West Cliff is residential and has the lighthouse field state beach. The Dream Inn near the pier has a restuarant with ocean views called Aquarius which does serve lunch.

Urgent help! (8 Replies)
I doñt wish to offend anyone but I fear I might, so apologies. We have just arrived in Santa Cruz after a two week hol around the central coast of CA. It's only my opinion but, to say the least, it's not what I expected. The board walk is tacky, the streets are filthy and I've been approached more than once by homeless people who have been pretty aggressive. I thought I'd left this behind two weeks ago in SF. We want to go back to Scotland leaving with good memories of our last couple of...More

Honest answer? I'd drive to Big Basin (state park) or at least Henry Cowell Redwoods. Truly honest answer? I'd drive to Point Lobos in a heartbeat. Don't know anything about Wilder Ranch, but Aptos has a nice beach. Do take a look at Henry Cowell, though (that's the only reason I would stay in Santa Cruz, my boardwalk/Venice days are long past).
