About
We are OPEN for Tastings. Come for the wine...stay for the Aloha! Is it possible to make the intangible, tangible? To define love, or to capture the feeling of a sunset? That's the challenge when it comes to MJA. It's not just a destination, it's an experience that goes beyond the wine, mixed with the aroma of chocolate & Kona Coffee, the setting and the people... It's the Aloha! Actually, we handcraft around 8000 cases of our Aloha each year, right in our Westside Cellar in Santa Cruz. We sell our wines directly from our Tasting Rooms because our philosophy is that we want you to be able to buy the highest quality wine that we can produce at the best value possible. That's why we offer weekly specials such as "take 3 bottles for the price of 2", and 20% off everyday for our Kahuna Wine Club Members, and 30% off on club pickup days. And our 100% Kona Coffee that Marin (he's the MJA) grows on the Big Island of Hawaii, was voted as America's Best Coffee by Forbes Magazine.

A few friends and I had just gotten lunch when we happened to walk by MJA. On a whim, we went in, and our "thirty-minute tasting" turned into a delightful several-hour experience. After doing their red flight, I would highly recommend their reds, especially their cabernets.
The staff at MJA are knowledgeable (but unpretentious), warm, and welcoming. We will certainly visit again!

We stumbled on MJA in Feb and made a point of coming back to try another flight of wines. The measures are generous so it's not possible for me to do more than one flight (6wines) at a time. For $8 it's a bargain. The wines are full of flavour. All very different and expertly described. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Sitting out on the patio in those sooo comfy chairs, sipping good wine, has to be one of my fave ways to spend an afternoon. We went to Sanoma but found that quite commercial and expensive and didn't like the wine! This is far more personal and relaxed and I haven't had a bad wine there yet.

We first visited the MJA tasting room in Los Gatos and Debbie directed us to the tasting room in Santa Cruz. We visited there at the end of our day, because they were open until 8pm. We had our leftover sandwiches from lunch so when we arrived at MJA in Santa Cruz, and saw the table with the lit firepit outside, we knew the perfect place to have dinner. We went inside and gave the gentleman pouring the card Debbie had given us for the complimentary tasting, and told him we were going to eat our sandwiches outside by the fire then we would be in to taste. He said, no problem, but that he would come outside to begin our tasting. We thought how wonderful. He came out with our glasses and the first pour and we were talking about how we had been to the other tasting room and really enjoyed it. He then went on to talk about the land up there and what he was planning on doing with it (plantings, walkways, etc). When he went back inside my husband said to me, "That's not Marin, is it?"(we had been told by Debbie that the owner of the winery was named Marin). When he came back out my husband asked him and sure enough it was! What an amazing treat to be served by the owner/winemaker of the company. We finished up our sandwiches and continued our tasting inside. We spent about an hour there talking with Marin about wines, coffee, the industry, Hawaii, you name it. He was such a down to earth, friendly, funny, amazing person. We definately will be visiting MJA again when we are in the Santa Cruz mountains--both tasting rooms!

Maybe it really isn't a secret for Santa Cruz residents, but for visitors, this is the place to do your tastings. I'm so glad we didn't do a pricey wine tasting tour. This place had a very afforfable tasting, great wines and an Aloha feeling. This is a hidden treasure in Santa Cruz.

I really enjoyed the time spent here, when I got in there were full and only 3 hosts so I was not sure I would get help but yes I did and by a very helpful and awesome host, he actually came to the other side of the counter and greeted me with a smile and explained about the tastings, I went for the Reds which I totally liked a lot, specially Melange de Rouge, very tasty! The flight was 6 wines but I ended tasting over 10 wines!! Over all I really recommend this winery, and I will sure come back again when I'm in town. Thank you MJA for the great service!!

Get a membership. Super reasonable. Awesome selection. Nothing jaw dropping, but a laid back atmosphere to try things at your own pace, regardless of the package you choose. They make you feel like a regular and their favorite customer. Inside and outside seating.

This tasting room is well put together and has nice staff and service. The wine is well made and of good quality. Definitely a pleasant place. However, it's hard not to compare this location to some of the relatively nearby wineries of Napa and Sonoma.

I tried Napa, yet again....a string of cars, big time wineries, crowded tasting rooms!
$20.00 + for a flight of average wines.
Santa Cruz, ahhhh, nice beach atmosphere, fresh air and great wine. MJA has it all, fantastic wines, fun environment and top notch service. An outside patio, where you can actually sit and enjoy your vino.
No rush, no fuss. Join the locals, feel at home and stay awhile :) If you are in Santa Cruz, just go!
