Santa Cruz is still one of the great places to see in California. The beach can get crowded, so it helps to arrive early!

This is THE beach in Santa Cruz. It is right in front of the Boardwalk, flanked by the San Lorenzo River and the Wharf. There are beach volleyball courts. Trash cans are offered. No pets or alcohol. Lots of families. Love walking it in the off season when the crowds are not there.

There are many volleyball courts. We enjoyed sitting on the street bench and watching the people play. We walked the beach and boardwalk. Fun beach area.

With the blue lifeguard chairs (think Baywatch) and the locals flying by on skateboards above the beach, this is the epitome of what people think of when they think of Santa Cruz. You can walk for a mile along the beach to the boardwalk, it's very relaxing and fun. What always catches my eye is how even the locals (always... More

You can't go wrong with a beach for me, but this is one of my least favorites so far, having traveled most of the California coast. I did enjoy the pier, with typical level of restaurants and shopping, but their is better to be had in Orange County. The surf was almost non existent, which my kids would not have... More

Disappointed with the amount of bottles on the beach. Expected they had cleanup crews to take care of this daily.

I found it interesting that there were so many beach umbrellas. When I was a teenager, we didn't use umbrellas. I think everyone is so afraid of skin cancer, that they're giving up what the Sun provides: Vitamin D. Everyone was having a wonderful time however, and that's the point, isn't it?

We drove to Santa Cruz beach from San Mateo with high hopes of a good beach experience after seeing forecast of 22 degrees temperature . Finding a parking place was a big task-it took 45 minutes to do that. The beach is not so big so they have made captive reservoir of water to have a canal type additional space... More

We have been visiting beaches along the California Coast. The beach was clean, not overcrowded, and the waves were calm. A nice family visit.
