We had a lovely visit to this museum space. there are three floors with different sorts of things on each floor. We loved the rooftop sculpture garden and the history room.

This is a fun interactive museum in downtown Santa Cruz Area. I stopped by and enjoyed seeing the different exhibits. Currently (October 2014) I enjoyed seeing their exhibits on
a) An exhibit to honor those who have passed on
b) Making It: Chicano Artists from the Mexican Museum Collection
and
c) Poets, Symbols and Songs
All of the above are temporary exhibits. They were well done. To find out what they are currently showing they have a web site with good information on it.
They do have a nice exhibit also on the community and community history. This is a permanent exhibit and is called: Where the Redwoods Meet the Sea: A History of Santa Cruz County and its People
Cost is reasonable at $5 (Note: $3 for children and seniors). They also have a free day each month which is the first Friday of each month.
In addition there are a variety of events here.
Staff is knowledgeable and helpful when visiting the museum.
(Note: The museum is across the street from Trader's Joe in downtown Santa Cruz area.)

Nina Simon became the director of the Museum a few years back, for many years the museum was lost and barely visited, Today is a different story, Nina has brought back the fun experience it was meant to be, of course their a monthly exhibits, now there is Music ,fun mask making and different projects for the children, at no cost to you or a small donations, their is dancing in the court yard,Arts and Craft shows, a nice Wine Bar..and I enjoy making frequent visits to this Museum, great fun for Locals and Tourist alike, lots of information on Old Santa Cruz, its people and changes through the years...It is in downtown Santa Cruz, and I understand Nina has even more fabulous changes coming in the next year or two..I will be waiting to see all the positive and wonderful changes to come..dont miss out on looking this place up especially on the First Friday walk and the Museum third Friday Fun..

Our Xmas Eve visit to MAH was all about trains for our 1 1/2 yr old grandson who has a serious case of the train and truck genes. He spent a deliriously hapot and focuse hour+ watching and platong with both electroc and Bruo train sets that dwarf what he could build at home. All of it was free and involved time of parents with their young children similarly afflicted. Great fun!

This is not a very large museum but it has some local history as well exhibits that change. You can spend just a quick 30 minutes or a couple of hours.

Big changes coming to this Off-Pacific location. Wine bar is (sadly) gone. Salon on the Square is going strong, as is the Homeless Garden Store. Summer weekend marketplaces have potential to bring good activity to this little corner. Hopefully the Museum plans to revitalise don't get hung up too long.

Our Museum of Art and History is a wondrous place. The historical display is fascinating taking through eras of original native inhabitants, the Californios, the new state of California, the gold rush, the Portugese and Italian fishermen, the Japanese women pearl divers, Prohibition, the sardine industry, WWII, the ranchos, the quarries, the redwoods, the university. A fabulous time capsule that you can walk through. Plus, the museum is a treasure trove of local art not to be missed. Special events for the whole family are orchestrated for the public every week, including art classes, dance and music performances, history walks, and concerts. Don't miss First Friday of each month. A big party. Enjoy!
