While visiting Santa Cruz, we went wine tasting at Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard. Its a nice wine tasting room by numerous others.

They specialize in Portugese and Spanish Wine. We had a fun time.

We chose this tasting room due to featuring two labels. Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard, and Quinta Cruz (these were Spanish and Portuguese varieties which are apparently positioned as "Cal-Iberian".). Andrew, a very knowledgeable gentleman, was working the tasting room. The tasting room shares the facility with space where the wines appear to be produced. So there was a forklift operating in the background, etc. After 6+ tastings, I requested further tastings be restricted to a select few. Many different tastings were on offer. I rarely buy dessert wines but was impressed by a Port style wine that may be one of the few made from the standard grapes used in Portugal. That was one of our purchases.

As an added bonus, they also sell Osocalis Brandy. The brandy is not offered for tasting, but the aromas did intrigue us. So we added a bottle of Osocalis to our purchases. The tasting room is in an industrial-type area but our online directions made it easy to find. I would definitely return.

Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard has a few of the standard varietals. They make a nice Cabernet Sauvignon for instance. But the real treat is tasting some of the unique Spanish and Portuguese grapes you won't find elsewhere. Very knowledgeable pourers.

While visiting the beach in Santa Cruz, we decided to end the day with a visit to the Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard. The young woman working there was so pleasant and helpful explaining their types of wine. We enjoyed a flight of wine and a glass. There are eateries in the area, but this is a nice place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. It appears that locals frequent it as well.

I was interested in the Spanish / Portuguese grapes they use in the Quinta Cruz bottling so we tasted here. My expectations were low and were VASTLY exceeded. Well made wines, in an old world style but with a taste of CA. pleasant and knowledgeable staff. The location seems unpromising but the wines are really quite good. Also had the benefit of being reasonably priced and able to take ti me to talk to you

If you enjoy trying new wines, you owe it to yourself to stop here. The varietals are unusual and delicious. This is not your ordinary winery!

It looks like a industrial unit and the "$5 wine tasting" sign didn't inspire but we were glad we stopped.

Six different tastings from a very knowledgeable gentleman.

Ended up buying a bottle of port for Christmas but could have bought several of wine.

It doesn't look that impressive from the outside as it's on the side of a shopping center but they have good wines and good people.
