Great way to tour Santa Barbara wine country. I gifted my daughter a day of wine tasting while we spent the holiday in Santa Barbara. Neither of us wanted to drive plus I’m not that familiar with the wineries in the area. Sustainable Wine Tours was the perfect solution. Our guide, Paul, was a local and helped brief us on the growing areas and the wines.

We were picked up at our hotel in Goleta and left for a small start up winery in Buellton. We were both impressed with the experience of the young winemaker and the quality of his wines at the first stop. Colin, at Marbeso, explained why he had chosen to make his selection and where he had sourced his grapes from (including Chardonnay grapes from our last stop). His bottles and the inside of his studio included great art from a young artist. One of my favorite wines was the Albariño/Gruner veltliner blend orange wine. Those two are probably my favorite summer grapes and I had never had them blended, let alone made into an orange wine.

After a tasty lunch from a local deli that we are on china at a local park we were off to Lavender Oak. This was a charming winery where we were served wines in the owners pool house by a fireplace. Great setting solid wines.

Finally we went to what both of us considered to be the best tasting of the day, Kessler-Haak. The wines were all outstanding and the location beautiful. Plus, they had a great vineyard dog. Dan, the winemaker was the perfect host and gave us the history of all his wines. They were all a big hit (with the exception of the rose, but that’s a taste preference). My daughter and I split a case to be shipped and joined the wine club.

Overall we were happy with the selection and the quality of wines. It’s nice to get the opportunity to try winemakers that aren’t typically open to the public.

This was my second time with Sustainable Wine Tours, and while it was a new, unique experience, it was equally as wonderful as the first time! From the comfortable van to the thoughtfully curated itinerary to the incredible wineries and delicious wine to the great vibes all around, I cannot say enough about Scott and his crew. Ten of us went to celebrate my 50th, and it will go down as one of the best days of my life! I would consider this experience PRICELESS.

First time doing any kind of wine tours and it’s outstanding!!! Very intimate. There’s only 6 of us on this shared wine tour and I think I would expect too much for when we book another tasting! We went to private vineyards and it’s literally just our group inside. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants to experience one of a kind drink, learn and relax kind of day!

This tour was so much more than we expected and we can’t wait to do it again. We arranged for pickup in Solvang and Karina did a great job communicating approximate time of arrival. After a brief introduction and the new normal 2020 prep (sanitizer, elbow bump, face mask) we jumped in where we met 4 more people. There were 7 people total on the trip and the 3 of us sat in the back bench seat and not once did we feel crowded or uncomfortable, we are from WI so not small people, ha. We visited 3 beautiful wineries that were all unique and places we wouldn’t see if we were not on this tour. Each winery we went to felt like a gathering with friends, drinking wine in a beautiful location while listening to one of the friends tells cool stories about the history of the vineyard. It isn’t your typical practiced sales pitch. You get to talk “hang out” with the family all while enjoying fabulous wine. We can’t imagine going back to Solvang now and going on the commercial tours knowing what we know now about Sustainable Tours. Not only does the tour take you to private places you also receive a fantastic lunch that you get to enjoy in one of the beautiful locations and the best part for us was Karina, our guide, chauffeur, chaperone, DD, encyclopedia, sushi hoarder and friend, the one who took us around and was very knowledgeable and very friendly. Sustainable tours is a must do! Thank you all so much and we hope to see you soon!!

Was a fun day sampling boutique Santa Ynez wineries (3 total). Staff know the region and wineries well. Just keep in mind there is a push from these wineries to join their club and to buy their wines.

Scott gave us an amazing day. We got VIP access to three amazing wineries. Each winery has private access to the owners on amazing properties. They shared their stores and history, and we were able to ask questions. The van held a small group, us and two other couples who were really nice to spend the day with. Santa Barbara along the coast also had some beautiful views. Thank you Scott!

Very personal service, small group. Karina was a wonderful guide. They take you to tiny vineyards/wineries that you wouldn't otherwise get to visit, and you spend lots of time with the actual owners, learning about their business and tasting their delicious wine. They try to tailor the wineries they choose for you to what you tell them in advance about the types of wine you like. They also provide you with a great picnic lunch, and allow you to select in advance what you'd like. All in all, a great day, highly recommended.

What a spectacular day. Stephen came and picked us up at our hotel and we all 7 climbed in the beautiful sprinter van for a perfect day in Santa Ynez Valley. We went to 3 different wineries and had wonderful tasting at all 3 with the best picnic lunch provided under a big oak tree in the middle of a winery. We are all still raving about our perfect day. They service they offer is top notch. Thank you all again!!

So good! I mean, sooooo good. Scott, planned the most amazing wine tasting experience for myself and my best friend. We were celebrating her birthday doing the thing we loved best :). What a beautiful day we had. Not only did we get to drink delicious wine in the most idyllic settings, we got to meet the wine maker at one location and had the best time with our hosts at the two others. It was really the best birthday outing we could have hoped for. Will be back to hopefully sooner than later. Highly recommend!
