This joint sure operates under the iron fist of Mr Abed, with Ian as his #1 little pet! Ian is essentially a submissive pet to Mr Abed, and unfortunately not in a good way for customers. The staff (save for a couple of the girls) is incredibly rude and thinks that talking to customers the way they do is acceptable — a real shame for any sailing center where it’s supposed to be about the fun. Skip, if you’re reading this, you need to have a stern talking to your staff asap. This more-righteous-than-thou attitude is complete crap and highlights the biggest failure I’ve ever seen in a sailing center, and I’ve been fortunate enough to be a member of several over my sailing career. Location = 10/10. Staff and flexibility = 1/10. True shame for such a beautiful place.

The guy told us to grab a lifejacket (and told us we don't need to put it on) and then pushed us off on the kayak. No introduction, no instructions, no questions. We had a great time teaching ourselves to kayak. When we got back, the girl told us to get ourselves off (she didn't help even when my wife almost fell in the water) and then walked away. When we went to inform the front office girl about our customer service issues, she basically told us that everyone knows how to kayak and told us to have a nice day, with an attitude of not listening or wanting to acknowledge the rudeness of staff. My wife and I understand CoVID-19 precautions working in healthcare, but this level of unsafe behavior and rudeness is inexcusable and not attributable to any CoVID-19 related restrictions. This is simply terrible customer service and inability to listen to feedback. Would highly recommend re-training staff or hiring staff who care about customer experience.

We got 2 tickets to the Sunday sunset cruise looking for a relaxing and romantic activity while visiting Santa Barbara. It became quickly apparent upon arrival that this is more of a party / spring breakers vibe than the classy oasis cruise they market on their website. The year is 2020 and we are living in a pandemic and the capacity of the boat was completely full - guests were not only congregating in line to wait to board and check in but the entire 2 hours was spent elbow to elbow with strangers. Yes we were outside, yes we were told masks are mandatory but as soon as we set sail we were told - and encouraged by staff - to visit their bar on board so you don’t have to wear a mask. Things escalated quickly and next thing we knew everyone was partying in crowds and no masks on. We don’t blame the staff for doing their job and wanting to stay in business - times are tough - but there was no regard for the safety of guests as it relates to COVID and honestly felt uncomfortable the entire time. Santa Barbara is beautiful, there’s no denying that, but this experience is not worth the risk and the company is doing nothing to protect their guests. If you’re looking for a party and don’t worry about infecting yourselves or loved ones this might be for you - otherwise I would not recommend this to others given the circumstances. I should also add the number of group photos where guests were saying “SAY CORONA ON THREE” while again congregating amongst the other passengers was very jarring and downright rude. Especially since the staff was encouraging it the entire time. We expect some risk in these types of scenarios but as it was outdoors and based on their website information chose this company and regret it. At the end of the cruise - the drunk passengers all hugged the staff individually goodbye - shaking hands one by one - with their masks down at their chin and I’m not sure why the staff would agree to this given the volume of cruises they operate each day. I’m not one to write reviews but think this information is important to disclose to customers.

We enjoyed the 2-hour sail along the Santa Barbara coast. Our captain, Spencer, was welcoming and friendly. Under COVID restrictions there was plenty of room on the boat. We would do this again.

We chartered Heather Jean, a 32ft Catalina sailboat for a three hour sunset cruise and it was the highlight of our trip to Santa Barbara. The booking process could not of been more simple and straightforward. The check in process was equally efficient and so easy. Our captain, Dana, was an excellent sailor and very knowledgeable about the harbor, animal life, history of Santa Barbara and nearby islands. We will definitely return for many more cruises.
