Don't come here expecting very comfortable wine-tasting experience. This is a working wine production warehouse. The wines and the tasting experience was however excellent. You stand around a collapsible table sampling and discussing their wines with a very gracious hostess. Even met the recently retired former owner. Go for the wines (and you even get to keep the glass!)

Jaffurs is the preeminent winery in Santa Barbara, really no question on that one. They're also one of the very top quality producers in the whole of Santa Barbara County. They aren't the oldest winery around, (though at 20+ years they're not exactly noobs) they don't have the fanciest tasting room and they're definitely not in the "hippest" neighborhood but they for sure have the best wines, especially if you're talking about Syrah. And just to pile it on,(deservedly for sure) they have the very best people both running and working the place. You just wont find a more authentic and exceptional group of people making a better product anywhere in the area or, frankly, anywhere I've ever been! :-) If you live in SB or are just visiting and you haven't been to Jaffurs, you are missing out big time :-)

I have enjoyed Jaffurs for years, but this was my first time to visit their facility. If you are looking for a fancy winery with all of the lovely gardens, gift shop and cellar tours, then go elsewhere. Jaffurs does not offer that. They literally have their winery production and storage in a two story warehouse in the middle of town. Grapes are brought in here for processing and bottling. The tasting is offered at a table top bar set off to the left side. During our time there, two other folks came in that obviously knew the Jaffurs wines and were equally serious about it.
Jaffur's offers the Rhone varietals of wine, including Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Petite Syrah and Syrah. They are all excellent and a very good value. We bought cases with plans to buy more.
Matt, the winemaker, was very friendly and open, and seems to have a wonderful grasp of the taste profile and balance he seeks in his wines. If you really like wine and would like to have a special Rhone type wine in your cellar, Jaffurs is for you.

Love these guys and their wines. They are the real deal. The wines have balance, finesse and are not to be missed. If you are into super fruit forward, leaning overripe - these wines are not for you If you are wow'ed by fancy tasting rooms and all the bell's and whistles that don't pertain to wine...this is not the tasting room for you. BUT - if you are into trying some of the best wines being made in all of California - you need take yourself over to their winery.
If you want to see what a working winery is and pay for the quality in the bottle - rather than the mortgage of the land and tasting room - then Jaffurs is your place! They are legends in the area for all that is Rhone. Plus, their Grenache Blanc is to me, mind-blowing!

With so many wineries in the area, this one was refreshingly different as the tasting is in the room where the wine is made. Marissa was very friendly and helpful in answering questions about the wines and the vineyards. All of the wine was delicious and made for a wonderful afternoon. Wine club is a great option too.

I love Jaffur wines and the young lady leading us through the tasting experience was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Great experience.

This winery has been included in the "101 Best Wineries in the U.S." news article more than once and for good reason. The tasting room is conveniently located in downtown Santa Barbara. All their varietals, red and white, are excellently crafted and affordably priced. The tasting room is laid back and hospitality very nice. The viognier is a gem and I encourage your trying it. I'm not a fan of this varietal but I will be ordering another case soon!

This is exactly the type of winery that we love ... one that worries first and foremost about their wine and doesn't put as much emphasis on their tasting room. Every wine tasted here was superior to other tastings in Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley. It is not located in the Funk Zone or on State Street, so it is definitely off the beaten path; but it is worth trailblazing your way there. The owner/winemaker hosted us and never pressured us about tasting fees or anything ... he just casually poured each of the wines on the tasting list and gave us helpful information about each wine. They were shooting new photos for the website while we were there, so we got to see the entire staff and got a few extra free pours while they had to shuffle us around and out of sight for the cameras. We could've stayed here all-day tasting these wines and talking with the staff, but they hit closing time and we need to get to dinner reservations in the Funk Zone. If you like Rhone-style wine and you don't mind doing tastings in the wine production area, then you must get to Jaffurs when visiting Santa Barbara!

Wine tasting is held in same warehouse where wine is produced and stored. Tight quarters so I suggest visits on weekdays or off hours to avoid a crush.
Good wines especially syrahs. Was served by owner and winemaker.

The location itself is a warehouse, in a mixed residential-commercial neighborhood. Why would anyone come here? Easy - world class wine. Go to Los Olivos and Santa Ynez for the beautiful atmosphere and and the fun of a wine-tasting trip, but Craig Jaffurs' wines are better than 99% of any wine you'll taste within 100 miles, especially Jaffurs Syrah. Wine-tasting is subjective so your opinion may vary, but when wine lovers ask me what are the one or two wineries they must visit south of Sonoma or Napa, for me this is one of them.
