Very fun place to see Seals, it's also very pretty. We spend about 30 minutes watching seals and enjoying the sun. If you go to Hearst Castle, take a few minutes and stop here. It's alot of fun. Good for kids and adults.

We weren't sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. There were hundreds of elephant seals on the beach. We parked at one end and walked the trail above the beaches (easy walk, path well maintained). The views of the ocean were wonderful. This...More

A mile or so north of Hearst Castle you'll find the Elephant Seal rookery. From a safe vantage point you'll see hundreds of Elephant Seals laying on the small beach, fighting over territory, or just flipping sand on themselves. You don't realize how BIG these...More

A small tip go to the far ends of the rookery as less people especially far right where you can get closer to the seals. A lovely place to visit and spend an hour. There are guides on site to answer any questions.

The elephant seals were fascinating to watch and were definitely the highlight of our stop at San Simeon! There was a newsletter explaining what the seals do each month. We visited in May and the females and young seals were molting (shedding their skin). I...More

What a fantastic place, beautiful ocean views and the seals we could have watched for hours. We went at about 7pm and it was very windy and cold so wrap up warm!

This rookery is an important reminder of why we need to guard our planet. The elephant seals that live on this beach are amazing creatures, large, robust, noisy and endangered (as we all are), and the dedicated volunteers who give their time every day to...More

Seals are almost everywhere on the beach and in the water! It's like free zoo, you can spend all day on watching them on the beach! They are just lying and getting burned ;) Very good attraction for kids and whole families, free wifi on...More

I had no idea elephant seals could be so fun to watch. Saw them in May so we weren't expecting to see very many after reading they are there January to March. But, there were hundreds of them. Such characters!!

Is the ground suitable for an elderly person. She can walk well, albeit slowly, on flat ground.

Yes ground is flat. The only area that may be of concern is the gravel parking area. There a lot of pot holes but if you park close to water front or entrance you should be ok.
We will be there the first week in October 2016, will there be any seals to see or will they be gone?
