This is my second visit to this famous California Castle in a long time. I am really amazed at the grandeur and magnificence of the place. Love the ancient and precious art objects and colorful tapestries. For a minute I felt that I was living there. Make this visit as part of vacation package that includes driving Highway 1 from... We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Hearst Castle. We were unfamiliar with the extravagance of this estate. In our trip to California, we were impressed with the many ways that California is trying to conserve water, including closing the bathrooms and using outside porta potties at Hearst. There were several tours available and we chose the Grand Rooms which... More

After 40 since my last tour of Hearst Castle, I toured it again today. First disappointment was that all restrooms at the museum were closed by Governor Jerry Brown "to save water", so the grounds were filled with porta potties to accommodate people. Next disappointment was the tour of the "castle". "Grand Rooms" we're all dark, so we were left... More

Incredible bus ride to this over the top museum. Bought the grand rooms tour tickets. Easy purchase on line - got the 9:45 tour. Comfortable yet crazy bus ride to the top of the "hill". Tour guide was amazing - had been doing it for approx. 25 years. Very knowledgeable and personable. Was able to walk around after the tour... More

The trip in and out from the main highway was an adventure exceeded by the castle grounds, architecture, construction and historical artifacts. Do not miss this opportunity if you are anywhere nearby!

We visited in mid June and chose the Grand Rooms tour. Everything from walking through the visitors centre is organised and professional. Service overall was great. $25 includes the guided tour, bus trip up to the castle and back and a 40 minute film presentation. Our tour guide was excellent and you get as much time as you want to... I didn't know why my husband was so interested in driving out of our way to go to the Hearst Castle. It became one of the highlights of our trip. It is like another world. Even though I know that money could have been probably spent on feeding the hungry at the time or some other worthy cause, Mr. Hearst... More

See a rich guy's monument to himself! LOL, it's actually pretty cool, especially the swimming pool and the dining room.

There's not much I can say that's new! All I will say is that if you are anywhere nearby it's a "must" - I've travelled a great deal around the world and never seen anywhere quite like it, so I definitely recommend a visit!

I love everything about Hearst Castle. I have been there all different times of the year. It always amazes me, the view from t h e top of the hill is a delight in it's self. The movie is great with the footage of old films inserted to show what Hearst looked like and his famous guest.
