Marin County is trying to stem the tide of development to preserve Open Space for all of it's population and visitors. Places like Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais watershed and other green areas are being protected by legislation so that greedy developers can not put housing or malls or other construction on sites that are sensitive and can not be replaced.... We visit open space several times a week. Being trail runners, it's nice to have so many trails, and so much public access to undeveloped areas. I tend to take this for granted sometimes. Make no mistake, land isn't as accessible in other areas. Get out and enjoy!!

Hiking trails galore and open to the public. Get a map and go on a hike. The hikes speak for themselves and are dog friendly

I live right next to Marin Open Space and go hiking in it almost every day. Depending on where you are (I'm in Lucas Valley) you can take all sorts of trails, some high up on ridges overlooking the Bay Area. One time the air was so clear I could see all the way to the Sierra, about 150 miles... More

85% of Marin County has been ruled out for development, and the open space district is a notable part of this. Just minutes outside San Francisco, this greenbelt is notable for its hiking trails and vistas.

There is SO much to hike, walk, bike, ride and see, we are truly fortunate to live in an area that values our environment! Get yourselves and your kids out on an Open Space area, you'll be glad you did! On any given day you can see about 20 different types of birds, frogs, lizards, snakes, skunks, raccoons, butterflies, crickets,... More

The fire road winds its way through the hills, offering a challenging hike and one of the best mountain bike outings with a variety of views over San Rafael and the bay.

The Marin county open space are is wonderful from Mt Tamalpias to the beaches. You can stroll a beach take an extreme hike or ride a horse on all said areas. I personally love the open spaces of Marin county.

I will not under any circumstances visit or promote in any way the MCOSD due to their uneven and draconian refusal to offer open and free access to users. The policies concerning usage are biased and underlined with opposition to activities the powers that be are opposed to. Not Fair use, not for me.

We have hiked a huge number of the trails in Marin. It is a main reason we live here. Beauty is pretty much ten minutes away from anyplace in the county, with a huge variety of views and moods
