Amazing experience with a full tour and history of olive oil farming and harvesting....As well as a tasting, all done by the owner. One of a kind experience! An unexpected Paso must do... highly recommend!

Decided to try something different than just wine tasting in Paso. Richard, the owner and a former jazz musician, schedules these visits personally and the old fashioned way by phone. Forget texting.
We had a dedicated 2 hour experience about the history, the farm, the agriculture and best of all, the tasting. It was very fascinating as he is a great host.
Richard did our tasting the same way the international competitions do it so you learn how to properly assess olive oils for quality. And, oh yes, their oils win international medals and it's easy to see why as you taste.
He has a large personality, is incredibly gregarious, informative and fun! You will end up buying many different bottles because they are so amazing. and they also sell out so very quickly so you probably won't be able to order online.
Note: there is no purchasing requirement or tasting fee. I think it's because he knows this amazing oil just sells itself. It sure did with us.

We've done olive ranch tours and tastings before but this was by far the best and most fun and educational. The best of all was that all the oils and vinegars were first class. Cannot recommend this highly enough.

On a road trip with a couple of days in Paso Robles, CA, an area known for abundant vineyards and wine tasting, my friend and I decided to mix it up by visiting San Miguel Olive Farm. This tour was the highlight of my time in Paso Robles.

Lucky for us, we were able to book a tour on short notice (about a week prior) on the day that worked for our schedule. I could immediately tell how warm Richard, the owner, was on the phone. A true gentleman.

Upon arriving at the front gate, we were greeted by Richard, who then escorted us to a big tree on the hill overlooking the picturesque farm. Sitting shaded under the tree with his sweet dog nearby, we listened intently, while he shared how he started the farm and his lessons learned over the years. We then walked to the olive trees and learned how the trees are maintained and how olives are harvested for optimal quality. Double lucky for us, we were the only ones on this weekday tour, so we were able to get a ride on his tractor around the farm.

After the farm tour, we retreated to the outdoor patio for olive oil tastings and met his sweet wife. We learned how to smell and taste his award-winning olive oils by swirling the oil, sniffing with each nostril, and then paying attention to how the oil tastes on the tongue and throat. He also shared over 15+ different flavored balsamic vinegars (some still in tiny sample bottles) for us to choose which we wanted to taste and learned how they complemented the olive oils. And Richard patiently fielded all our questions during the entire tour.

There's no pressure to buy, but I don't know why anyone wouldn't purchase some excellent quality finishing olive oil and balsamic vinegar from him. Plus, one would be supporting a small local farm business. It's a WIN-WIN.

Note: This visit was done during the pandemic. I felt safe as he asked in the beginning of the tour about mask use, and we were outside the entire time. I'm positive Richard would accommodate if you didn't feel comfortable with anything. Also, they are in the very early stages of building a separate tasting room, but the tastings done in the outdoor patio were perfect for us during the pandemic.

Richard and Myrna are kind, lovely people. Richard's tour and oral history of the farm was both entertaining and interesting, and the tasting was very informative and really cool! He made the tasting a fun time for my 8 yo son with interactive music and attention. We all left happy and already planning on coming back.
It's apparent that the olive farm is their passion, and the proof of their hard work isn't only in their delicious oils and vinegars, it's also in their awards!

Richard Meisler (owner) greeted out group of 6 at the farm entrance and escorted us up to the farm. A very casual, relaxed atmosphere sitting under a shade tree as Richard started explaining about the tour and basic information on olive farming. This was truly a one-on-one type experience and we all treated as if we had know Richard for years.
After the olive farm tour, Richard invited to his home located on the farm grounds. His wife Myrna greeted us upon arrival. We then sat on the outdoor covered patio as Richard personally served us his various olive oils, explaining the differences, then tasting with provided sour dough bread pieces. No pressure or sales pitches to purchase anything.
In this hustle and bustle world, the whole experience at San Miguel Olive Farm was casual and slow paced. The hospitality is something many places should take note of. The olive oils we tasted were the best, and we gladly bought a variety to enjoy at home.
Thank you Richard and Myrna for your hospitality and for the best olive oil on the planet!

We learned so so much about the history, the process, and the tenacity to create an olive oil that sits above and beyond the normality. You can taste the dedication and thoughtfulness that goes into each bottle and the TLC that goes into the trees. It's so refreshing to see Richard be so passionate and intentional in his company which includes everyone and everything.

Richard led an amazing tour of his olive farm. Richard was waiting to receive me when I arrived at 10:15am. He described the history of his olive farm, the intense work required to maintain olive farms, and all of the nuances associated with production. He puts his heart and soul into extra virgin olive oil production - that's probably why it has won so many awards! After almost 2 hours, I can confidently say I have a more than basic understanding of olive farms and the olive oil industry.

This was such a wonderful tour. This was my kids first tasting and they were not disappointed. We learned so much and the oil was absolutely delicious. In addition, the landscape was stunning. Away from the busy city, we were able to enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding hills and vineyards. This was a great place to visit and definitely a must see when touring in San Miguel.

This is an overdue and much deserved review. While staying at the Allegretto Vineyard Resort I met Richard Meisler at his San Miguel Olive Oil tasting table. First I must say Richard is a very gracious host and his olive oil is exceptional. I believe there is a simple explanation for its great taste! Richard invited me to his olive farm for a tour. Richard, a very patient man, explained in detail all the great care he takes in all of his olive trees. He even cares for the owls that take resident on his property. I truly believe the love and care he gives to each of those trees results into an amazing product! If you ever get a chance to visit the resort and Richard is there you will be in for a treat. Also if you have extra time look him up to see if you can get a tour of his beautiful olive farm!

Thank you Richard for a very memorable experience! Your farm is beautiful, and the olive oils we tasted showed us how carefully you care for your trees. The history of your farm, the challenges you’ve faced and the process you explained from planting to harvesting was so informative. Nika was such a good dog waiting for you patiently the whole time!

It all started with Richard waiting at the gates to receive us and Myrna leading us with the direction for the last 1 mile. I would say Richard led an amazing tour of the olive farm. Under the shadow of a large tree, he described the history of his olive farm, the intense work required to maintain olive farms, and all of the challenges he had to overcome. Then had to do a ride around the farm .. some of it thrilling and finally finished with the taste of all his hard worked Olive. Our kids also had some good time with the horse. Looking forward to be back during harvest.
