We loved the gorgeous arbor when you walk into the rose garden - it is stunning! I think we will need to revisit the garden in May when the roses are in bloom, because we were only able to spot a few blossoms. It seems like a nice little public park with lots of middle and high school students hanging out after school, families with small children and dogs, and a couple of folks in tents who look like they sort of live there. The reflecting pool doesn’t reflect much more than light due to the fountain in the center, but as we sat on a bench and enjoyed the sound of the water, it was a pleasant escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

A beautiful garden in a wonderful neighborhood hidden in San Jose. Bring book, frisbee, snacks and stay for a few hours. Hundreds of roses in bloom (certain times of the year) with a pretty fountain, redwood trees and shady lawn areas. Gets crowded at times due to popularity.

We arrived in San Jose on a road trip and were too early for the museum tour we booked so we decided to take a walk in this rose garden. Such a nice surprise in the middle of town. The roses are well taken care of and the park itself is well maintained with restrooms. It is free to enter so bring a drink and take a stroll through the roses. Be sure to stop and smell them as well....such a beautiful aroma!

Stopped by the rose garden since much isn't open in that area/CA in general. It's quaint and cozy. Went on a Friday afternoon, decent amount of people, wish I would have known we could picnic there, that would have been romantic. Very relaxing place.

Nice rose garden. Free entrance. Easy to find parking off the street. We visited mid-July when more than half of roses were wilted. I think visiting before June should be a better timing to see beautiful fresh roses. We still had a nice time strolling around the garden and got some nice photos.

LOVELY place to visit on ANY day, especially when the roses are in bloom.
This location was my FIRST city job as a Groundsworker in 1975. What memories I have and I learned so much about roses and how to care for them.
When you go, marvel at the roses but please DO NOT pick any!
One of San Jose's finest places to visit if you are a tourist or resident. GREAT place for a picnic or party.

Enchanting! free entrance to this beautiful place! I see people having picnics. Bathroom tho is not well maintained, well it’s free what do you expect! It’s a great place for photoshoot and family time. You could spend a day here to relax get those problems away!

So many beautiful varieties of roses! The surrounding neighborhood is also beautiful. It seems like a nice place to picnic. Very spacious and there are restrooms on site. Highly recommend it if you’re in the area!

We came in because we saw the reviews saying you could see flowers all year long but unfortunately there's not much to see except the fountain at the gate. Late December is not a good timing for visiting.

i hope you will return to the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden during the Spring, Summer and Fall months to see the 4,000 roses in bloom. Yes, late December is not a good time to expect to see roses in bloom. Roses need to be cut back in the Winter to go dormant. The first week of January, the 4,000 roses are Winter pruned and stripped of all leaves by over 500 volunteers. This gives the roses a chance to store its energy and put on a spectacular display in the Spring. We do hope you return in the growing season to see the spender of the Garden!

I had spare time and I went for a walk just to confirm there are no roses during the winter :) It didn't worth the visit. The garden is very small. There is a nice fountain. Anyway, it is definitely nothing special and you better skip it if the season is not appropriate. I am surprised it is #2 attraction in Trip Advisor, I guess the other things in the region are even more boring :)

Typically, the roses are in bloom April through November.

“There seems to be conflicting info regarding pets. A previous answer was ‘no’ but I don’t know if it came from an official source. Can someone who may have seen a sign or works there or with the city please respond? Are dogs/pets allowed?”

I have seen dog's there (bring along your pooper scooper stuff in case). I have not seen the official policy on this, but I have seen nice and happy dogs. The roses right now are beautiful. Enjoy.

Planning on a trip in mid June. Will there still be rose blooms then? Is there an entrance fee?
Written May 26, 2019
will be great in June, plenty of rose blooms, no fee to enter park and free parking around garden.

I wanted to have my wedding in March at the rose garden, are the roses bloomed enough by then for good pictures?

Check out the other rose garden - the Heritage Rose Garden - I was there early June and it was past its peak
Written July 4, 2018
The garden is best seen from mid- to late April through May. However, there are blooms throughout spring, summer and fall. There is a secondary bloom usually in late September to October. One caveat: weather makes a difference. During the drought, the garden was best photographed in early April. Other years, I've been there in late April when it was just getting to full bloom. If you have a choice of time to visit, Mothers' Day is often the most popular in my experience. In a regular, non-drought year, roses shouldn't be in bloom in winter, although during the drought I know that blooms kept appearing, but the quality was not as great as the April-May, into June blooms.

We went three weeks ago and it was still gorgeous. I'd think you'd still be able to see lovely blooms now.
Written September 25, 2017
There are some. Not as robust as May and June. There will be limit d blooms until December, the roses are trimmed for the winter in early January. Mother's day in May is the hight and spectacular.

No way!!! The park has been open for 80 years without a fee. I might suggest you pick up lunch at the Park Station Hashery right around the corner have have a picnic!
