Wow! Assisted by pros, you're introduced to the basics of glassblowing then get explicit assistance to produce a piece that looks so professional you may wonder if you really created it. Yes, you did. With patient input from some craftsmen who know the field. Only takes about 15 minutes to do your thing but you will need to wait for your turn in the heat. If you're averse to hot rooms and lots of noise, this may not be a great activity for you. Suggest long sleeve shirt; the heat on your right arm is intense. Great time, good value & great way to sample a possible new creative outlet.

Although a small workshop, but it is good for 2-3 people to visit or 2 dozens to have a team-building event. The glass blowing section captures the most attention, but the glass fusion section at the back is where to show individual creativity. Blow glass ball ornaments or glass flowers; make colorful glass panes with your own designs. You don't realizes how fast time flies when you start your own project. Artists here provide a lot of hand-holding and advice on your personalized artwork. It is a very interesting experience. By the way, your own artwork will be given to you days after when they are cooled down.

BAGI moved to History Park the corner of Phelan Avenue and Senter Road in San Jose. It is a fully operational glass blowing studio- almost a factory of different styles and types of glass blowing. During the hours they are open there is always some blowing- and they like to talk about what is happening. A great physics intro for young people. Classes are offered quarterly.

We received a bowl-making, glass-blowing class as a gift. I was actually not looking forward to the class because the idea of the roaring hot furnaces was frightening to me. The instructors demonstrations and encouraging guidance throughout the process made the experience safe and fun. I not only wound up with a bowl I will proudly use, but I also stretched my own boundaries - that felt wonderful!

This institute was started over 20 years ago by glass artists who needed more time to perfect their art than given to them at SJSUC. They built forges, aneiling ovens and started training others interested in the art of glass. A homegrown institution that has a vibrancy that is inspiring.

I took my 11 year old to do the "Shape a Bowl" class here 2 weeks ago and we had a wonderful time. I wasn't sure what to expect and was nervous, but Jared was a patient and funny instructor. He was there every step of the way so I could ask questions or he'd step in and twirl the glass blob before it dripped unevenly.

We both had a great time and would definitely return to take another class. They're quite full as I already looked into a paperweights class and a garden ornament class. I highly recommend this unique experience!

I went to Bay Area Glass Institute with some friends to do the "Shape a Bowl" class and it was a great experience. The instructors are really knowledgeable. They make sure to demo in details what you will be doing and guide you through every step of the process. They make sure that you will be going home with a decent bowl while still giving you a little freedom to focus on the work you are doing.
It is a great activity to do on a weekend with your friends, a fun get together!

Tip: pick a day that is not too hot outside as it can get quite hot inside

We went to the October glass pumpkin patch glass event at Santana Row. They had so many beautiful glass pumpkins made by a variety of artists. They were for sale. We found our favorite.

We went on Day One when they were finishing setting up for the event. They also had information there on their classes on how to learn to work with glass. They also had one of their glass ovens on site.

Santana Row is the premier boutique shopping center in San Jose so it was nice to see the event at this shopping center.
