The San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) is an energetic art space located in downtown San Jose dedicated to making contemporary art accessible and exciting to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The ICA has long been committed to presenting exhibitions that include visually compelling and conceptually challenging contemporary art, as well as a variety of educational programs intended to help our audiences reflect upon these works. Exhibitions are presented in three galleries and the space is activated by opening receptions, First Friday gallery walks, after-dark programming in the front windows, panel discussions, printmaking workshops, brown bag lunches and impromptu conversations in the galleries. The ICA is a member-supported, non-profit organization. Admission to the gallery is free.

The building is nice and well designed, but art collection is not that big and represents only represents only modern Art and is not that impressive.

We had some time to kill after an event and before another so we stopped by and went through the museum. This was not our first trip by any means and we always enjoy the exhibits. While some contemporary art may not be my personal favorite, the quality of the displays are consistently top notch. I enjoy the spacious environment... More

It's worth a visit to San Jose, if only to take in the art at the ICA (ok, you should stop in at the SJMA as well!). ICA has interesting, challenging exhibitions that never fail to engage their audience. Exhibitions draw artists from the Bay Area contemporary art scene (and heavily from known SF Galleries) but show work from father... More

Small, but everytime I visit an exhibit I'm impressed. Interested shows. Check on line before you go at their website to make sure what they are currently exhibiting is of interest to you.

My Mom and I went to see the latest exhibit, Size Matters. This is the 3rd time we've been here and each time the exhibit is thought-provoking. Even more because there was a docent-tour given by the artists themselves. It adds a few layers of understanding when they talk about their inspiration and the challenges to creating their art. It's... More

We were visually overwhelmed by the Urgency and Size Matters exhibits. They were very impactful both through size and medium. We will return as the exhibits change. There is a lot of creativity and force packed into this small space.
