The Monterey Peninsula's love affair with world-class racing traces its beginnings to the inaugural running of the Pebble Beach Road Races in 1950. Those sports car events quickly outgrew the public roads of the Del Monte Forest and a beautiful new road facility was born on November 9, 1957.Since then, Monterey has been visited by some of the most prestigious racers in history; Roger Penske, Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Kenny Roberts, Bobby Rahal, Wayne Rainey and Valentino Rossi to name a few. The late 60's and 1970's may be remembered as the "Can-Am Years," but it was also the debut of Trans Am, IMSA and AMA motorcycles. CART Indy Car racing and Grand Prix Motorcycling put their stamp on the track in the 80's and 90's. More recently, the huge evolution MotoGP has created a phenomenal global following for the track.Today, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca hosts five world-class race weekends each season, with elite road racing series from around the world visiting the Monterey Peninsula every year.

Must go for racing enthusiasts

Great venue, has a more intimate feel than a lot of the big international race tracks. Plenty of good places to watch the racing.

My friends and I stopped in to see the famous Laguna Seca Raceway and were quite surprised to be able to drive right into the facility. You had to pay about $8 entry but we had much more access than we thought we would have. Of course you could not get on the actual track but you could drive all... More

loved the 'high spots' overlooking the valley, easy to get our 25' motor home in... killer views to the west, fairly well worn campground. although is is not city camping, this is definitely NOT camping in the forest. it is conveniently located to town with nice fire pits, nice picnic tables, great hook ups, good dump station. Unlike other reviews... More

Stopped off here as we are huge motorsports fans and it was on our way. Entered the raceway and managed to park right by the corkscrew bends to watch some club car racing. There didn't seem to be anyone about except people taking photos. It was great to actually be there and appreciate the way the track falls away on... More

Being motorsports fans from UK it was worth a quick visit to take a look at the track whilst in the area. The guy on the gate allowed us in for 15 mins to take some photographs. Lucky to see a car on the track. Pity we were not there when racing was taking place but enjoyed it nevertheless. Sadly... More

I spent two days( Friday and Saturday) last week for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports reunion. I had a great time photographing the vintage race cars at the Corkscrew(turn 8) and at the grandstand at turn 5. Plus, you get to walk through the pit area. Except for this year, I am able to photograph the Superbike races every year. It... More

So many people visit the Monterey Peninsular for a variety of reason, mostly golf and tourist related events. I have been to the area many times and on several occasions I have heard racing cars in the distance. For those of you that do not know, there is the best road racing venue in the US just inland from Monterey.... More

A great weekend. Fantastic access to the pits and a petrol heads must do event. In my opinion it needs more big screens around the track. Radio earpieces so you can hear the commentary over the noise and more seating to rest and eat. Otherwise a well organised event.
