I've been a Steinbeck fan since I was a teen. I knew his home was in Salinas but did not know about the center. We began by talking with a volunteer. He recommended we watch two short films. One was a biography of John Steinbeck....More

Well-organized museum. There are two short introductory films to see before seeing the exhibits, one a biography of Steinbeck, the other about Salinas area agriculture. The exhibits focus on the different books and include film clips, pictures, newspaper clippings published at the time. I especially...More

The docent was very sweet and helpful. We enjoyed the museum far more than we had expected. There are many interesting displays!

Takes you though the history of Steinbeck and features his memorable books. The only criticism is that it could be a little larger and some of the interactive exhibits aren't working. Still, a good museum that makes me want to go back and read more...More

My husband and I just visited this center. We both found it very enjoyable and informative. Previously, I hadn't know that much about Steinbeck but through the films and displays I learned a lot.

National Steinbeck Museum is worth visiting if you are around. But you won't miss much if you skip it. They have some exhibitions from the novels but I can't say they were impressive. I think it is good mostly for school kids.

I had not read any of his books, only saw two movies made from them. It was fascinating to see the story of his life and his books. Great history of the area and really gave a chance to understand the man and his life...More

I brought my students here for years as part of our literature unit on local, American literature. The students loved the displays, interactive nature of the presentations, and enjoyed being part of Steinbeck's California.

Excellent layout explaining Steinbeck's life and the influences on his writing. Exhibits are just like he described them in his books.

I don't believe so. You could call and find out. It is self guided and there are many movie clips so I don't think it would be possible. It's not large enough for a docent tour. Read all of your Steinbeck books before you go!
