Elmshaven is off the beaten path in beautiful St. Helena just off Rte 128. This is a restful and peaceful stop for those interested in knowing more about the spiritual leader Ellen White, her life, her writings. She was one if the founders of the Protestant Christian Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a prolific writer of over forty books including counsels on health and medical matters. You will be given a guided tour with a docent, so be prepared to spend two hours. The two story house is much as it was in the 1800s with a beautiful farmstead and vistas of the area. You may purchase books and DVDs in the small gift area and will be given gift books. . Bathroom pavilion outdoors for a rest stop. There are about 7,000 to 8,000 visitors per year. It’s a great tribute to how God blesses pioneers and visionaries.

We had an excellent time visiting this place. We visited on a Saturday after 2 pm and at that time there were not many people. The volunteers are very knowledgeable of the history of the place. It was an excellent time this visit. I would highly recommend this place for anybody.

This home has a lot of history behind it. It was first owned by a rich individual (Pratt) who ended up moving to San Francisco and sold this home to the White family for less than half of what he paid for, what a blessing! The staff here is very knowledgeable, I'm horrible with names but we met and spoke with the great granddaughter of Ellen White and her husband was our tour guide. He gave us a lot of information and insight to the life of Ellen white during her last year's in the home. For me, I was able to connect a lot of dots from what I knew and what I was able to piece together from the tour. Alot of the furniture and items in the house are original. The home sits on a wonderful property of 5 acres (back in the day I want to say the property was 60 acres full of orchards and gardens). A must visit definitely for adventists or to see the home of the most authored woman in history.

Ellen White a prophet of the Seventh Day Adventist church lived her during her latter years. She received visions for her books in an upper room in which she wrote about her prophecies. A best selling author in North America!

Elmshaven is a fantastic place to relive the final years of the most published authoress in history who wrote on themes as extensive as salvation, the love of God, education, child rearing, leadership, the second advent, and health reform. The Victorian house is exquisitely preserved.
