About
Presenting Charles Krug's Cucina di Rosa Salumeria, now offering handcrafted salumi and artisan cheeses daily! Starting in July 2017, enjoy wood-fired pizza on our tree-lined lawn (Thursday through Mondays) from 11 to 4. Pair these Italian-inspired delicacies with a delicious glass of Charles Krug wine. The oldest winery in Napa Valley, Charles Krug recently renovated its historic Redwood Cellar, turning it into one of the region's most stunning Tasting Rooms. Named one of the "Top 10 California Tasting Experiences" by Food & Wine and winner of the 2015 Architecture and Landscape Award for Best of Wine Tourism, this is the winery that put Napa on the map. A must-see for anyone interested in the legacy of Napa Valley winemaking. We offer several tasting options daily, including exclusive tastings of our limited release wines. Walk-ins are welcome, or call to make an appointment.

Although we had not made reservations, they managed to find us a place inside and we experienced a delightful tasting conducted by Lupe, along with a charcuterie board sold on site. Apparently this is the oldest winery in Napa. Although one of the Mondavi brothers owns it, it is not affiliated with the Robert Mondavi winery which is now owned by Constellation. The building is gorgeous and the venue is a stop on the Napa Wine Train. Charles Krug winery is also a Priority Wine Pass participant.

Blue Note Napa held concerts here during the summer of 2021. We attended a wonderful outdoor concert by Arturo Sandoval, jazz trumpeter formerly with Irakere. The caveat here is the concerts are organized and sold through Ticketmaster and there are no walk-ups. Despite the constant drizzle and unseasonable cool temp in the low 60s, we had a great time.

We booked a tour & tasting at Charles Krug and enjoyed our time there. The tour was relaxed, but our guide was very informative and we were able to see the beautiful grounds while learning about the winery's history. The tasting finished up in their great room and we enjoyed their wines and complementary cheese board. For being a larger, more known winery, it didn't feel pushy or overly commercialized. They host larger outdoor events during the weekend that seemed really fun. We would return in the future.

We used our Priority Wine Pass to receive the 2 for 1 Estate Tasting ($40.00 savings) that was held inside the Redwood Cellar. Our wine host was Mikey and the wine tastings lasted about two hours because they were very busy. Like most wineries, they want to sell you on joining their Wine Club, which we did not join. We purchased one bottle of their 2018 Limited Release Chardonnay ($48.00).

We had a great experience at Charles Krug Winery in large part thanks to or “wine ambassador” Mikey. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and a good representative for the winery. After the short/informative tour we settled into the estate tasting with charcuterie board; both were great. The wines were so good that we bought several to take home. We visited on a weekday when it was less crowded. If you’re looking for a winer tasting on your tour of Napa Valley, put Charles Krug towards the top of your list.

I had to create an account online to make a reservation so maybe that should have tipped me off things would be a little different here. We were greeted by the hostess and shown a table (all were inside). The hostess said a wine ambassador would be with us shortly.

We waited about 5 minutes with a couple gentleman walking around to other tables. The hostess then came over, poured our first pour, and repeated again the wine ambassador will be with your shortly. We drank the first pour and it was minimum 25 minutes or so (with a couple of servers walking around to other tables) before we flagged down one of the gentleman. It was like both were literally ignoring us, until we motioned one over. We asked him " who exactly is our wine ambassador for our table??" He didn't seem to really know or comment on it really, but offered to get us our second pour.

By this point we are disgruntled and a different lady showed up (not the hostess), served us our last 3 pours, all pretty quickly. We left right after without buying anything. Out of the 10 wineries we visited on this trip, this was by far the worst with service.

I chose this winery for our first stop because they serve oven baked pizza and it was delicious! Our host was a 71 yo sweet lovely lady. She was informative, friendly with a great sense of humor. We had Charles Krug cab before and liked it, but the $45 tasting allows us to try some limited editions and we love it! Winery itself is beautiful and clean inside and out. If you are planning a wine tasting day this is a MUST GO.

You must visit Charles Krug Winery, especially if you love wine history. Napa wine tasting would not be complete if you missed Charles Krug. Charles Krug is Napa Valley’s oldest wine estate. Most importantly, proudly stewarded by the Mondavi family since 1943. First opened for public tastings in 1882, Charles Krug is home to California’s very first tasting room. Today they have a world-class tasting center, known for its exceptional wines, stunning design, and storied heritage.

We love history, and our favorite history is wine history. At Charles Krug, we immerse ourselves in the rich history of Napa Valley winemaking. It was here that we learned about the legendary Mondavi family. Actually, we had heard the Mondavi name mentioned at almost every winery we visited.

Robert Mondavi was not just interested in bringing recognition to the wines of the Napa Valley but to all of California. In 1943, Mondavi joined his father and brother Peter after the family acquired the Charles Krug Winery from James Moffitt. Mrs. Krug sold the winery to Moffitt with a stipulation that the name never changes. Today the winery is owned by Robert's younger brother Peter Mondavi.

WE learned all of this wine history by visiting Charles Krug!

Wine tasting area is in a gorgeous stone building. It's large and spacious with comfortable seating available. The winery is located on beautiful grounds. We were able to bring our dog (75 lbs) in on a leash while we taste. Krug does a nice job with their wines. They are on higher end but worth the money.

Firstly, I found Charles Krug while looking for a group booking (20ppl!). From the start Luke was such a breeze to work with it and made my decision easy to book this winery. They also have a very cool lounge/wine bar with some cheese/charcuterie that I would come back to. We did lunch/tasting. The reds are stellar for the price point, a big THANK YOU to Luke for hosting us - he is an asset to C.Krug.

Early Super Bowl Sunday, only us and Delightful Jamieson and some of their wonderful new Sparklers, the Carolina Bale Brut and Rose, not to be confused with the French Krug champagne. So delicious. And their dessert Zin that blew me away. Not a Port person, this is so.much.better. Gorgeous estate, the real Napa. Visit soon and often.
