My trio of friends decided to do the reserve tasting. Michelle was our server and was able to bring her obviously experienced palate and people reading skills together to make our tasting perfect for us. We not only loved the amazingly complex cabernet, but we're...More

We booked a mandarin tour since our non English speaking families were visiting. Chin-Wu did an amazing job - he was super welcoming, patient to all types of questions, and paid a ton of attention to each individual. We enjoyed our time there thanks to...More

Visited with my wife. Perhaps we did not look like wine buyers as we were totally ignored by two employees attending the gift shop counter, as well as the gentleman at the tasting area. I made sure I walked around for several minutes, enough to...More

Beringer came recommended by a Napa native who will suggest visits and make custom itineraries at no charge! He suggested a specialty wine pass which saved us a LOT of money. We didn't do a tasting here but if we had, the pass would have...More

Visited on a Wednesday morning. Quiet, in crowded and very accommodating. Beautiful grounds. Cory was excellent at our tasting, not only knowledgeable about the wines offered but on local happenings as well. Loved the tasting and then a glass of our favorite out in the...More

We booked the “Reserve” tasting through Los Alcobas. We had Michael as our host. He is extremely knowledgeable! Great story of the Beringer brothers history. The wine with the cheese tasting was delicious. We were surprised that Beringer made that quality of wine. Rather expensive....More

My entire group of friends wanted to go where we all KNOW the label...so Beringer it was. While the estate and vinyards are definitely beautiful, it was too touristy, and tastings without doing a tour-way too pricey. The grounds and house are FULL of people....More

Big estate, lavish grounds, a good walk and visit. Tastings were not sampled here. Located right off the main highway. Plenty of easy parking.

When I first visited the Napa Valley 37 years ago, it seems like Berringer was a single building and a household word. When they started turning out White Zinfandel got bored housewives in the ‘80s things began to explode. Now it is multiple buildings and...More

Napa Valley Wineries HELP (18 Replies)
I would like some advice on wineries to visit this Spring on our trip to Napa. We are staying in Yountville, @ Vintage Inn. There are so many wineries... It's difficult to choose. We are staying 3 nights, but can only enjoy 2 full days in the area. Questions: How many wineries is it possible to visit in a day and still enjoy at a leisurely pace? How many tours per day? Here is what we are looking for: - Beginners! My husband knows a little more about wine... But it is up to me to plan...More

Nice list! Keep Domaine Chandon for sure. In Calistoga, you may also want to add Sterling and Chateau Montelena. :).

Help narrowing down winery choices (5 Replies)
My mom and I will be visiting Napa Valley for 3 days this month. We're looking to visit 8-10 wineries during that time. I've narrowed our choices down (see below). Would like some advice on which 8 or so to go to. Also which of those to do tours versus just wine tastings. We'd like a mix of different experiences (tours, types of wines, architecture, art, scenery, small and large wineries, etc). Neither of us have been to this area before. Thanks! Beringer Vineyards Castello di Amorosa Del...More

That's a fun list of wineries. I would do tours at Frog's Leap, Castello di Amorosa and Schramsburg. Del Dotto if you have the time, but they do a lot of wines, and if you're a novice, it might be a bit much. You could go for just a tasting? Everywhere else, just do a tasting. I wouldn't know what to eliminate - but do make a Goosecross, Peju and Vincent Arroyo a "must do" Cheers!

Wine Itinerary (5 Replies)
My girlfriend and I are visiting Napa for the first time in June. We are far from wine experts, so we are mostly interested in seeing wineries with great views, amazing architecture, fun tours, and large pours during the tastings :) While we both appreciate a good wine, we favor reds more than whites. We will be getting a shuttle to take us to the wineries, so driving is taken care of. Also our B&B hosts have made some recommendations on wineries, but I'd like to hear other opinions if...More

For architecture, consider subbing Artesa or Domaine Carneros for BV or Rutherford Hill. Also...someone just reported that Beringer is undergoing some sort of renovation and that the old building was closed - maybe someone will verify. If it's closed, though the grounds are beautiful the big "barn-type" building isn't much to look at IMHO. If you like art, I'd suggest the Hess Collection. Oh, another architecturally-interesting winery is Opus - their pours are pricey but the wine is awesome.
