As a wine lover and frequent Napa visitor, I'm always on the lookout for hidden gems. Modus Operandi is exactly that, although I suspect it won't be hidden for too long, given the quality of wine they're producing. Jason does an amazing job reflecting the terroir of his wines, especially with the Pinot Noir from Bacigalupi and with his Sauv Blanc. He's building a reputation as a bold and creative winemaker and it shows in the glass.

The tasting experience is high quality in a beautiful setting. We were hosted by Caitlyn, who is extremely knowledgeable about the Valley and beyond and who does a great job putting Modus's wines in context for both highly experienced drinkers and beginners alike. This is a place not about pretense, but about sharing their passion and their wonderful wines. Definitely worth a visit.

We had one time slot to fill on our recent trip to Napa, and M.O. seemed like it would be a good fit...and it was! We've been to approximately 60-70 wineries over the last 10 years, we usually can find one or two varieties at each vineyard that we're willing to purchase. Modus Operandi Cellars is one of the few where everthing we tasted...we wanted to buy. Caitlyn met us at the outside tasting lounge, and proceeded to give us a great experience. We tasted 4 of their wines, both white and red, and were pleasantly surprised that not just one or two...but every single wine we tasted, we loved! We bought those 4 and also joined their club. Very hard not to when not only are the wines top notch, but currently club shipments ship free. Great wine and a very friendly, easy going hostess. Can't wait to visit again.

Found Modus on line prior to our trip to Napa and liked the story of Jason starting it up. We had spent the week tasting in Paso Robles, Sonoma and Napa and this experience was right at the top. Their wines have a lot of character and we enjoyed the tasting experience.

A group of 8 of us friends went to Modus Operandi because we heard so many great reviews of Jason Moore’s wines. The tasting was conducted at the Brasswood Winery complex in St. Helena at an outdoor area perfect for a large group like ours. Not every winery will accept groups larger than 6 so I’m very appreciative they were able to accommodate us. Caitlyn, our wine ambassador, also suggested we eat at the Brasswood Bar and Kitchen which is also part of the complex. Great suggestion as the food was superb. We then walked over to Caitlyn for the tasting. We went through all of Jason’s latest offerings and also tasted his reserve “Collection 2016” Cabernet Sauvignon. That wine was so unbelievably delicious that we ordered 4 on the spot along with the 2018 Vicarious Red blend. Great job here all around from welcoming conversation, thorough explanation of the wines and of course the wines themselves were terrific. Highly recommended.

This our second visit to MO and we're members of the wine club so since we were out there for my birthday I asked the owner and winemaker Jason Moore if he'd do the tasting for us. Jason is a really busy guy not just with his own wine but other gigs he has so I was happy that he was generous with his time. Although I pretty much already knew his story/background it was cool to sit around the table with him as he told the story of how he ended up in Napa making wine and how he ended up with the barrels he uses for his awesome Collection wine. Ended up buying a couple of the 2016 Collection which hasn't been released yet, it is the bomb and worth the money. Go here for a tasting and make sure you do lunch right next door at Brasswood and ask for the mozzarella app that isn't on the menu.

We had a wonderful, relaxed Sunday tasting experience with Caitlyn. She was a great host, knowledgable about the region and wine. We enjoyed Modus wines and recommend this boutique winery for a personal wine tasting experience.

Had a great time at our Modus Operandi Cellars tasting. We look for smaller producers that focus on high quality wine. MO was great from that perspective. The wines were exceptional and we are looking forward to receiving more in our first club shipment. The tasting room we used was convenient and a very nice facility. The great part about our tasting with MO was the fact that Jason Moore hosted the tasting. Being the owner and winemaker, he was able to share the backstory of what makes his wines special. Was a great experience and we are looking forward to more of his wine.

My husband and I met up with his brother and SIL for a weekend in wine country now that we are all vaccinated. Our tasting was in the Vintner's Den and it was a fantastic, beautifully decorated space. The wines were all delicious and I particularly liked the stemware. The best of all the tastings we did that weekend. It really made for a luxurious tasting experience.

Caitlyn was an excellent host. Knowledgeable about the wine, but also a good conversationalist as we relaxed and enjoyed the afternoon.

Prior to our visit, communication was excellent, if a little overzealous. Caitlyn even suggested we book a dinner reservation at the Brasswood Kitchen + Tap on the property and alerted us to a mozzarella appetizer that isn't on the menu (and is SO good. Along with the brick oven pizzas).

Highly recommend.

My husband and I very much enjoyed our tasting with Jason. I was pleasantly surprised he was able to accommodate us on such short notice! We loved the that our tasting was with winemaker himself and he told us about how he got started. Generous tastings and the wines themselves were amazing! We ended up getting 3 bottles, no pressure at all that’s just how good his wines are. He also recommended lunch at Brasswood right next door, it was a great follow up to the tasting. Highly recommended Modus Operandi, we plan to do it again the next time we return.

If you’re a fan of doing the whole “one of these things is not like the other” game then Modus Operandi is your kind of winery. Jason Moore is a self taught (although he is quick to credit mentors) winemaker from Dallas Texas. He is not a billionaire, he’s not operating out of a Howard Backen designed cathedral of a winery and he’s not perched atop Pritchard Hill on a perfect piece of land. What he is is a salt of the earth guy who wears every hat in his company, has cultivated relationships that allow him to source some of the absolute best fruit in Napa and Sonoma, and has used that fruit to make some of the best wines I’ve had. Jason has built MO from zero to where it is today, approximately 5,000 cases of as he puts it “too many wines”. I have recently been in a Pinot Noir phase, and as luck would have it Jason recently began making Pinot. While not his main focus, the two Pinots he shared w me (UV Laguna and Gap’s Crown) were exceptional, I am certain his other two from Silver Eagle and Bacigalupi are just as good. We then moved to his Antithesis blend which is as unique as his story, and it’s also a winner. I won’t tell the whole story, but I assure you you’ve never had a wine made like this before, and it is great. Next up were two 2019 single vineyard Cabernets, Edcora and Sage Ridge. These two wines, while being dense, powerful and rich, were also velvety smooth and elegant, light on their feet so to speak. Jason shared 5 wines with us and I would absolutely buy every single one. I don’t join wine clubs, I joined this one. Do yourself a favor and book a tasting, you won’t be disappointed.
