I worked in the capitol building for a couple of years and never took a tour until after my children were adolescents. We took the docent lead tour and I learned so many things I hadn't know before. My favorite was learning about the California's State Seal and the reason Minerva is found on the seal. Just as Minerva sprung... More

It was great to get at our of the Capitoland hear the history of the building as well as the restoration of the building. It is a magnificent structure and the workmanship of the artists who contributed to the restoration was amazing. Truly a worthwhile visit for anyone visiting or living in Sacramento. I know many people who have lived... More

We enjoyed a great free, hour guided tour of this capitol. Our guide was very informative, with nice touches of humor as well. After the tour, we wandered around the capitol for another hour at our own pace. Because the capitol was practically rebuilt in the 1970s, much of it is reconstructed, but there are still quite a few elements... More

The California State Capitol is a good place to go if you have some time on your hands. It is fun to see, but remember, it's not an amusement park. There is nothing particularly wrong with it, and I do recommend you go, but if you don't have the time to see it, it's not THAT big of a deal.

A must see if you're visiting Sacramento. The tour guide was awesome, learned a lot, who knows how much I'll actually retain. It was worth the trip

I really wanted to visit the Capitol while in Sacramento but my teenage girls insisted they would be bored. Needless to say, I made them go and they absolutely loved it! We spent several hours taking our own tour, and learning quite a bit about the building. They did not regret their visit and I was happy we had such... More

They've remodeled much of the capitol to look like the early 1900s and it's beautiful! You can see offices and rooms that look like they did 100+ years ago, plus the house and senate chambers. There's a lot of symbolism in them. The grounds have hundreds of labeled trees including East Coast Redwoods even though they wouldn't normally be there.

One is free to roam this building (after enter through the usual security) however free tours are given throughout the day. The rotunda is very interested as are special rooms set aside from the early days of California (Secretary of State, Treasurer), houses of the Assembly and Senate. Portraits of former Governors. Tiny shop in the basement. Restaurant is tiny... More

We've taken our children to tour the Capitol on a couple of occasions and always been impressed by the architecture. If you are lucky you'll be able to see the Legislature in session from the galleries or bump into the Governor, Assembly members or others in the annex hall. I've seen demonstrations and parades in front of the Capitol and... More

The Capitol is more than just a building where the Governor works. It is a museum worth seeing. There is a display of each county of California. It's kind of fun to find your own county and see how it is represented. Also, I enjoyed seeing all the past Governor's photos on the wall. We looked for many we knew... More
