About
Frog’s Leap was founded by John Williams in 1981. Started on a shoestring budget even the name itself was ‘borrowed’ by combining Stag’s Leap, where John started his Napa Valley winemaking career, and the Frog Farm, where the early vintages were made. The winery was relocated in 1994 when John and his family moved Frog’s Leap to the historic Red Barn in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and sits amongst some of our 200 acres of estate grown vineyards. Over the past 30 years Frog’s Leap has earned an enviable reputation with our unique combination of a whimsical label, sincere dedication to sustainable principles and our small, handcrafted production of wines. Over the years to come we look forward growing and learning more about ourselves, our wines and how we can share it all with honesty and genuine hospitality.

- BuenViaje68Tempe, Arizona559 contributionsFrogs Leap-Loved the Zinfandel! This was the first of 3 wine tastings we scheduled for a Friday. We learned by the end of the day that two tastings should be the maximum. We started our tour at 10am. This is a very nice property with very nice people working here. Our host was McCoy. He is a very friendly and knowledgeable wine guide. He did a great job introducing each wine and how it is made and aged. We learned a lot. Our favorite was the Zinfadel. We purchased a bottle to carry with us. We walked the estate after we concluded the tasting and had a wonderful time. It was a nice easing in for a day full of tastings.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 10, 2023

Lucinda was a fantastic guide, with tons of Napa knowledge and lots of fun anecdotes about the winery and its history. - tnt t69 contributionsBeautiful Vineyards, Family-friendlyGorgeous winery with free fresh peaches. Tastings were all booked up the day we went, but we were free to walk around the property and see all the fruit trees, grape vines, and lavender. Many benches and walking paths, clean bathrooms, and even a chicken coop. Many families were walking around enjoying the day.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 3, 2024
- Natalie BDenver, Colorado30 contributionsMust visitDon't miss out on what Frog's Leap has to offer. It was a great experience from start to finish. We were running 10 min. late and they were super understanding when I called ahead, warmly greeted at the door, given fresh peaches, and had a great tasting with McCoy. The property is beautiful and it's so relaxing to sit on the wrap around porch. Love their commitment to dry-farming. Joined their wine club & really love how you can customize shipments, lots of places frown upon that.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 28, 2024
- ZsaZsaFond du Lac, Wisconsin16,827 contributionsNice VisitGlad we made a reservation for a tasting as the sign at the entrance said they were full for the day (at 10:30am). Loved the serene setting out on the porch, felt like you were at someone's home. We had Leslie and she was a joy. She was so enthusiastic and you felt like she really was having fun. Not much education on the wine or winery as I would have probably liked, but a very personable experience. We enjoyed the wine and purchased a few bottles. Others mentions free peaches and snacks but we just had a couple chips on our table to cleanse the pallet. After the tasting she took us on a little walk around the property and since it was harvest season, we were able to see them in action. She then let us wander around the area on our own, letting us enjoy the beautiful property.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 15, 2024

Four of us, all professional women who went to college together 30 years ago, visited this as one of the stops I curated as the planner. If I could take back the wasted time, money and effort we spent there, I would. Our tasting was prepaid and was moved indoors due to heat. We were fine with that, since it was 111 degrees. We were not fine with how we were treated (ignored). There were only 12 of us at the tasting, which we had scheduled for 75 minutes. We got our first wine, and one friend told the man pouring it that she wanted to ship some to her daughter. He poured the second and then spent the rest of the time at the neighboring table talking about non-wine matters. I hope that table bought a lot because we didn’t get a chance to. He poured the third and didn’t speak to us. We learned nothing about the winery, vineyard, grapes or wine. He talked so long and ignored us so completely that we never even received the last wine to taste because our time ran out and our table was mad. The best thing we can say about it is the farmhouse was pretty. This was a complete and utter waste of our time, and we told the driver we had hired to pass it by for future clients. I emailed the hospitality coordinator and got zero response. They really don’t care about customers.

The winery is beautiful, but the wine served is all very acidic. The reds were all 2017-2018 vintage, and were much too young to be served by anyone, much less a tasting room. I didn’t drink a full glass out of any of my tastings. Not worth the tasting fee, there are other beautiful wineries that serve decent wines to visit. This is a skip.

We were looking forward to our first visit to Frog's Leap but found the whole experience very disappointing. From checking in and being told to just wait until called (we waited 20 minutes past our tasting time and only were given a table after asking about the wait), to standing at a small table in a small reception room with about 6 -7 other parties also doing tastings, it was loud, it was uncomfortable, it was not at all enjoyable. I understand it was warm outside and they didn't want to use the porch as a result, but this was a terrible alternative. Our host was young and in training and it was very difficult to hear him, though everything he said was very scripted and he often repeated himself. We didn't fault him for his lack of experience, we understand he was new and was learning, but it just really contributed to what was overall a frustrating experience. The grounds and the garden were lovely, we enjoyed them more than the wine itself and much more than the experience.

We wanted so bad to love this winery. The property & facilities are absolutely gorgeous. However it’s service just did not compare to other local stops. To get the next wine taster, you had to walk back up to the top of the barn, then back down to get to the barely burning fire & seating (doesn’t sound terrible, I know, but really not a crowd favorite after a day of wine tasting). The wine itself was just okay. Again, we appreciated this stop for it’s beautiful scenery, but that was really it.

What a fantastic Napa experience, we thoroughly enjoyed our Signature Seated Tasting Flight on the porch overlooking the gardens & orchard, with our host Natalia. She was very knowledgeable and personable, very informative, not pushy a real pleasure to spend the afternoon with. She was a true treasurer with an old soul. The Winery dry farms all of their vineyards, they’re wines were very enjoyable. After our tasting we self toured, with a glass of our selection through the vineyard, garden, orchards et, very relaxing. This was our first tasting in Napa after 2 Days in Sonoma and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Frogs Leap Winery is a beautiful working farm! This is obvious when you drive up. The entry hall is expansive and beautifully curated. We were welcomed to The Frog Pond in the center of the courtyard. Michele greeted us with wine and a very warm demeanor. She pointed out a long table in the edge of the courtyard where the workers and owners were finishing up lunch, shouted “hellos”. Michele took us through a building filled with barrels and stainless drums and explained their processes. From there we were led to a porch overlooking the gardens to finish our tastings. The Merlot was our favorite of the day! At the end of our tasting we were invited to stroll the garden before our departure. Absolutely lovely grounds as well as Michele! She was perfect for us! Very lovely and knowledgeable!

This is my favorite winery! Tastings on the porch are intimate and magical. We were last here ten years ago when they did garden bar tastings by the lily pond. We always find interesting wines to take back to east coast.
If you are a garden and architecture person this place can’t be beat. I took lots of inspiration pics of their gardens! The branding of the property right down to the corks is casual, elegant, and classy. They don’t miss a detail. Their pairings felt special because they mostly came from the estate. We got some peaches on our warm sunny brunch tasting that were right out of the farm.
Love that the owner cares for the land with a future focused vision. He also is a bit of a trailblazer and tries interesting techniques with his wines. Our server was knowledgeable not only about the wines but the entire estate growing and fermenting process.
They literally think of everything - you can grab their paint color list at the hospitality house before you leave. I made note of lots of unique gifts that I can purchase as hostess gifts and holiday items. They are not gift shop vibey but rather a well curated selection of a few farm treats.
I’ll be back for sure!!!

The beautiful gardens and vineyards surrounding the lovely terrace where the wine tasting took place helped create this idyllic setting. Truly a memorable experience….great wine, each offered in a different wineglass, (unlike other winery tastings that just poured the next wine into the same glass), and a personable and knowledgeable server.

Welcoming staff, stellar wines and beautiful winery. Thanks to Jen for her graciousness. We were familiar with Frog's Leap wines in restaurants, but have not visited until today. So glad we did! Tyler was a very knowledgeable and accommodating host, highlighting each wine's attributes, from grapes grown by uniquely brilliant, sustainable methods. Frog's Leap features not only lovely wines, but a beautiful tasting veranda and an opportunity to walk through the gardens. Reservations needed. Not to miss!

About 1.5 hour, but that requires an appointment specifically for that and a reserve tasting. I did not do this part of the winery visit, opting instead just for the tasting.

Is it ok to bring 2 kids with us for the Garden/Cellar Tasting? We were also thinking of bringing along a picnic.
Written January 26, 2018
We had an adult with our group who was not drinking. I don't think they charged her at all to follow the tour with the rest of us, so they would probably let your kids come.
Also, you will be taken through areas where there are vats and industrial equipment...I would be concerned for the safety of younger children going through these sections.
It was a great tour...very interesting for us, but again, maybe not for little kids.
