Rutherford Hill is one of 3 wineries we (3 couples) visited in a day. The setting is gorgeous. It was a rainy, cool day, so we were unable to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, unfortunately. Our tour guide was great! He was very knowledgeable about the...More

I thoroughly recommend the wine tasting tour at Rutherford Hill winery. The tour was both educational and entertaining. The wine was delicious especially the rose. The setting is spectacular and the wine caves very interesting.

My husband and I stopped without a reservation just to do a quick wine tasting (not a tour). They were able to fit us in. We had a wonderful experience. The server spent a lot of time answering our questions and telling us about the...More

We had some time, so came here for a wine tasting without reservations, which is fine here. The place was a bit crowded, and you push your way to the bar and then have a tasting. Overall, I found the price to be high for...More

One of the few wineries that has a dedicated picnic area where you can carry in your own picnic lunch. Cannot bring your own wine (must purchase from tasting room). There is a fee for reserving table for two hours, which is waved for purchase...More

Beware of their wine club. I visited last summer, ordered a few bottles of wine, and was talked into trying the wine club and was told when they notify me of what is being shipped, I could decline if I didn't care for the grape...More

Bryan was our guide and he was extremely helpful, friendly and his knowledge is very impressive. Stunning surroundings - simply stunning. Despite other reviews I can confirm that the tasting fee was waived when we bought from the shop. Highly recommend.

There are many, many picnic tables outside. The views are amazing. We had a picnic lunch with us and enjoyed the enchanting view of the valley and of the cute blue jays. We tasted their wines by splitting one fee, because I drink white and...More

San Francisco - Napa - Oakhurst (6 Replies)
Hi All My fiancee and I are travelling to California for our Honeymoon next August. I am planning it as a surprise and all she knows is that we are going to California. After a couple of days in San Francisco we are headed over to Yosemite where we are staying just outside Oakhurst. However she has now asked me if we are going wine tasting at any point on the Honeymoon (ie "If we are anywhere near San Francisco can we go to Napa"!). As our timetable is fairly tight anyway I was...More

My question is why are you staying outside of Oakhurst for a Yosemite visit? In August you can expect it to be hot & dry. The drive to Yosemite Valley from Oakhurst is about 1.5 hours. The best Oakhurst has to offer is low priced motels and grocery stores. Please read the Yosemite forum Top Questions about lodging to be sure you'll be happy with Oakhurst. Yosemite: tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g61000-i315 As for the drive, I wouldn't try to add to the long day. It's feasible, but a very long...More

Hi, We are couple visiting NAPA for the first time in the month end of June (26-27th) After doing a little research I have shortlisted the following wineries for our visit there. 1. Cliff Lede Vineyard 2. Mumm napa- 3. Rutherford Hill winery- for the cave tour 4. Tres Sabores 5. St. Supery 6. V.Sattui We are looking out for more small, local and less crowded places with beautiful views and want to skip the usual touristy crowded places. My question is whether I am on...More

Your not really on the right track. V.Sattui is the most crowded winery in the United States, it will be unbelievably busy on the weekend and is touristy. Mumm is also very busy and touristy, but the view is nice from the patio, but it definitely isn't small, local, and not busy. Cliff Lede is nice but can get fairly crowded. The tour at Rutherford Hill will be fine because they limit the amount of people who can go on the tour. St. Superey is a toss up, could be busy because it's located on...More

My girlfriend and I are visiting Napa for the first time in June. We are far from wine experts, so we are mostly interested in seeing wineries with great views, amazing architecture, fun tours, and large pours during the tastings :) While we both appreciate a good wine, we favor reds more than whites. We will be getting a shuttle to take us to the wineries, so driving is taken care of. Also our B&B hosts have made some recommendations on wineries, but I'd like to hear other opinions if...More

For architecture, consider subbing Artesa or Domaine Carneros for BV or Rutherford Hill. Also...someone just reported that Beringer is undergoing some sort of renovation and that the old building was closed - maybe someone will verify. If it's closed, though the grounds are beautiful the big "barn-type" building isn't much to look at IMHO. If you like art, I'd suggest the Hess Collection. Oh, another architecturally-interesting winery is Opus - their pours are pricey but the wine is awesome.
