In 1900, when Georges de Latour's wife, Fernande, first laid eyes on the land that would become their original Rutherford vineyard, she named it "beau lieu," or "beautiful place." Shortly thereafter, de Latour bought the four-acre ranch and founded Beaulieu Vineyard with the vision of making Napa Valley wines that would rival those of his native France. In 1938, he traveled to France and returned with André Tchelistcheff, the famed viticulturist and innovative enologist. Tchelistcheff introduced cold fermentation for white wines, malolactic fermentation for reds and aging red wines in small, French oak barrels. He also insisted that the de Latour family's private Cabernet wine-"Private Reserve"-be bottled and sold as the winery's flagship offering. The result was the inaugural 1936 vintage of the Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that was destined to become Napa Valley's first "cult" Cabernet. Today we continue to innovate to craft wines in our bold, classic style. We have become a leader in clonal research, and our BV Clone Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon wines are highly acclaimed. Most recently we completed a new state-of-the-art winery within one of our original buildings. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Winery utilizes the latest technology in combination with time-honored traditions for the production of this exceptional, wine-the longtime benchmark of Rutherford Cabernet.

This was the 5th and last winery for the day. Maris was our wine guide. She poured the wine and explained a bit about each wine. She is so personable and easy to talk with as well. She mentioned to us that the sister vineyard Sterling wines was having a harvest party. The sister wineries showcased their wines at the... More

Very good tasting experience here & impressed by the depth of the Cabs. Surprised they were not busier given how good the service was, & the quality of wines. Give it a try!

I would recommend the reserve tasting. The staff is knowledge, informative and friendly. The surrounding is nice and I would suggest to taste your wine outside. If you purchase for $100, they will wave one tasting fee of $40

While touring Napa we toured the winery as had a sampling . The tour was just the correct length and we'll conducted. All questions asked were met with informed answers. The tasting was well done in the pleasant hospitality room.

went for a girls trip, I ended up joining this wine club because their reserves are phenomenal. My favorite is the reserve tapestry, and would recommend any wine lover or casual consumer who loves a great red blend to go here, you will not be disappointed.

Did the maestro tasting and was very pleased. Tasted wines that were not available as large distribution and was pleasantly surprised. Brad our server made the experience fun and relaxed. Joined the club!

Beaulieu is a reliable tasting room in a great location. It offers a regular and reserve tasting room for visitors, and is in the same parking lot as Rutherford Grill, one of my favorite restaurants in wine country. The wine is always good and the tasting experience is affordable and relaxed. As a member I have enjoyed access to the... More

Visited Beaulieu Vineyard for a tasting, had some lovely wines and heard great stories about the vineyard. Received some excellent recommendations about many other vineyards. Friendly servers, in a low key tasting. We did buy a membership, which provided us with free tastings at 5 other wineries.

This is a good wine at reasonable prices especially for the Napa region. The tasting room fees are reasonable and they give you several choices.
