Found a deal on golfnow for $20....

This is a tough course ..... Some holes are narrow, dog legs, water, bunkers and some hills.

The course is in ok condition..

They have a nice bar and practice facility.

The carts also have gpa.

This course is not for a beginner.

I've played this course several times over the years. The front nine is very nice, the back nine is very challenging for someone like me who very rarely breaks 100. The course is very well kept, and the club house, pro shop, and restaurant are all well cared for. The food is above average, especially for a golf course.

I played here with 3 friends. Walter Hicks checked us in. He was so welcoming and helpful...the course was in good condition and in short...we all had a great time.
We plan on returning soon..
Only suggestion....bring lots of balls...go off the fairway means "reload"..... no I forgiveness....Mike

Very Disappointing for an expensive course. Confirmed email for a 9:10 T time and was told upon arrival it was 9:20. Practice balls for the range should be included not extra when you’re already paying $80 a round. One set of rental clubs for women with only 11 clubs. Water/ice facilities are abysmal. No ice at all on a day that was over 100.
We stopped after 9 since hole 10 was really backed up. Only reason could’ve been some group jumped in where they weren’t supposed to be. Ranger should’ve been watching hole 10 for possible clubhouse stoppers who inappropriately reappeared in the queue. So we paid for 18 and played 9 due to incompetent course mgmt.
I was just sent a survey but the link is to the thunder valley casino. Seriously?
No plans to go back.

2nd Hole is stunning. Tough course…if you’re up for it. This is not for the weak heart. From the water running on various positions over several holes, jagged rocks, tree lines and sloping greens; this course has it all. If you’re looking for a great, fun challenge…look no further

It's a must-play if you're a decent golfer, but, it's not for the faint of heart.

It's fair if you play it smart but tough, very tough with trouble waiting in front and to all sides if you don't. It's also, challenging in a very fun way. So it can eat your lunch, but you swell with pride after a great round or even a well-played hole.

There are several risk/ reward holes and birdie holes that are sooooo rewarding when they pay off and make up for the inevitable double or triple boogie.. Smart, straight, and accurate distance control, more than most courses, is extremely important.

Golf course designer Johnny Miller, reportedly said jokingly after playing the course for the first time after completion, "I'll never play that course again. It's too tough". Also, the LPGA tried a tournament there one year and declined to return...."Too Tough".

Just a course that is not that fun to play. The holes just tend to be a little odd. There are far better courses in the area

I had never been to this golf course prior to September 2018.
It has been there for a number of years now.

It was a recommendation to come for a meal (to the onsite restaurant).

I did not explore the menu deeply, but it is has quite a bit of variety (with steep entree prices to boot).

I chose a swiss burger with fries.
My companion chose a salad and soup.

The food was decent...but nothing to write home about.

The view out to the golf course is what makes the place a good one to stop at.

The Restaurant was not that busy.
The main reason why the rated is only average us because the service was severely substandard.
Had to ask a few times for things.
The server never really cared about what we might of needed.

I think we would of got better service at a Carl Jr. Never checked on if our meals were right. Never even bused our plates away. The server was lucky to get a decent tip.

Not in a hurry to return to this place.

I don't play golf BUT I DO use the on site restaurant which is open to the public.
The views from the dining room and the outside patio area are just breathe taking.
You can look out onto the lake and water fountain on hole number 18 and the course is so immaculately kept and really stunning.
The food is delicious too. They have a very varied menu and the prices are fair also.
The staff are very attentive and the food is always well cooked and lots of it.
The dining room is large and airy with high ceilings, huge windows and there is also a well stocked bar.
The bathrooms are always very clean too, which I look for in a restaurant.
I use this as my "local" place to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner or even just a coffee with friends.
Give it a try.... you won't be disappointed.

It was a lot of fun playing on the fairways, but not on the greens - just too fast. Without a doubt, however, this is a well laid out and maintained course where shot making counts every hole. Whitney Oaks deserves to be on anyone's list of the top five courses in the greater Sacramento area. I also appreciated the staff's great courtesy in welcoming a stranger and pointing out the facility's fine features. The other reviews on TA cover the course very well. Unfortunately, there is one major drawback I must add - the pencils had no erasers. For some reason, my score always improves when there are erasers, and I play alone. Go figure!!
