Really, truly, beautiful, hideaway. Rich history. Beautiful views. Down a few slopes of centuries old, narrow, understandably decaying, stairs (sneakers/tennis shoes and cross-body bag or small backpack recommended if taking more than your phone). Doesn't take long to get to the cave/cavern of Lapa de Santa Margarida and back up to the top. Beautiful sights, water, mists!

It wasn't easy to find it. I followed google maps as much as possible to the road leading to Praia dos Pilotos (and the road is closed in summer right there), then asked a local kiosk who led me to the top of the stairs. Mind you, the decent on stairs takes 10-15 minutes (and you have to go back up), and the path is narrow with long bushes at times. But you literally descend to sea level, and the entrance to the cave is amazing. The church is speechless, especially with the sound of breaking waves right next to you. It's dark, and may be spooky for small children, but magnificent to visit. It's quite a shame that it's polluted with graffiti.

A tiny chapel in a cave. From the parking it is easy to go down the narrow stairs, but hard to climb. From the cave is a very beautiful view to the ocean. You can swim there

We found this lovely cave after taking a long walk down towards the sea. The reviews we had read said there were about 20 steps but there were definitely more like 100!

The walk isn't easy, and not for the faint hearted. Don't even attempt it if you're unsteady on your feet but it's so worth it for the incredible view and the fascinating cave.

I visited this nice place together with my boyfriend. We had such a beautiful time riding through the Arrábida Natural Park (roadtrip is the best option) . I knew about this place before from one of the hiking websites. Mostly only Portugese people know about this place. Which is cool. There was nobody. There is a way from the round. You can miss it easily. So it's before you will get to the village. You will see huge white house on the left side and you have to go right. There are stairs. Path is ok, romantic. :) and the cave is totally save. Local people are visiting it mostly to pray to god and put there some flowers.
