This museum is probably most interesting to San Mateo County residents (or someone interested in the local history). It has a good amount of information presented in a way that makes it interesting. The old courtroom and domed ceiling are very worth seeing.

Good place to spend a day for family with children. Learning about the history of San Mateo County. You can get free pass via Peninsula Library system. It's located in the heart of Redwood City downtown. Lots of venues for food and shopping.

Nice quiet leisurely visit to a place I had never visited in almost 30 years of living in SM county. Nicely laid out, informative, good to find a free visit day for visiting.

This beautiful building houses a lovely museum that will interest adults and children alike. Don't miss the bookstore beneath the courthouse.

The museum is somewhat small but has a nice layout and history of the County. We were there for about an hour and were able to see most of the exhibits.

Although I went with a school group, I will go back when I'm in the area. It was really well done and interesting. The "flow" of the museum is very clear and they have fascinating historic items on display.

THIS is one of the best HISTORY MUSEUMS IN THE BAY AREA. It tell the history of san mateo county, and the exhibits are always new and interesting. Truly, if you live in san mateo county, you should visit, you will be surprised once you step inside the door, don't miss going upstairs and visiting courtroom A.

I felt like I was on a fantastic school field trip. I went to this museum based on Tripadvisor reviews and I was pleasantly impressed. $6 for admission was worth it. Beautifully preserved, wide range of activities to facilitate learning about the history of this region. Cool. Just go!

Sorry I waited to visit! The building alone is beautiful of course; many of the exhibit areas offer interactive displays which is fun. Although it's not a child-centered museum, my five-year-old enjoyed it. One area has a "trolley" where visitors can try "driving." High-quality, visually appealing displays that provide a wealth of information about the area. I particularly enjoyed the... More
