About
Kimberly Crest House & Gardens is a 6-¼ acre estate in Redlands, CA featuring a Victorian Chateau and Italian Renaissance styled gardens. The house was built by Mrs. Cornelia Hill in 1897. In 1905 the home was purchased by John Alfred and Helen Cheney Kimberly who added the gardens. After the Kimberly’s death the house was inherited by their daughter, Mrs. Mary Kimberly-Shirk, who donated the house to the “people of Redlands” and founded Kimberly-Shirk Association. The estate is now owned and operated by Kimberly-Shirk Association, a 501-C3 Non-Profit organization on behalf of the people of Redlands and is a historical landmark. The interior of the house serves as a museum offering both public and private tours. The gardens are utilized for public events and rented for weddings and private events.

The house itself presents an interesting tour. The rooms are tiny, so it feels like one of those scaled-down Disneyland prop houses. It's a shame that they don't allow pictures inside. Technically you're not allowed to take photos outside either, but they weren't stopping anyone from using cell phone cameras. It's a popular venue for parties and, on the day I was there, they said every Saturday was booked 18 months out. The day I was there the tour staff was incredibly disorganized. There were no signs directing you to the ticket office and our tour was overbooked about 50%. They're closed in August because the house has no air conditioning and it was still uncomfortably hot when I visited in late September, so plan on going on a cool day. You'll have 3 different docents on the tour, the first outside, another on the first floor and a third on the second floor. Each was friendly and personable but their knowledge was not as deep as, say, the guides on the Hass-Lilienthal tour in San Francisco. Personally, I would have preferred a single guide take us on the whole tour. The cost was $10 regular price and $8 for seniors, and the tour lasts about 45 minutes. This is not tour to bring young children on. One father had to leave the tour due to a restless infant. His wife remained with a boy of about 5 and his sister of about 10. The boy was bored to death but the girl really enjoyed the tour and asked good questions, so use that as a guide.

Hugely disappointed tour, and the deceptive advertising. There is no gift shop as the website says, no big deal as we were there to see the house. We saw parts of half the house. The 3rd floor is our offices and are dusty. What? that's where the architecture and peaks of the house are! We were allowed to see the 1st floor and 1/2 the 2nd because that floor is unstable and could collapse? If so, it needs to close down until they can fix it in the name of public safety. The executive director can't more their office to the carriage house? which isn't on the tour either. What a ruse.

This was an awesome experience! Everyone on the staff was incredible. My wife is in a wheelchair and Joan and Cindy were so friendly, kind and accommodating to my wife. My wife was not able to go up to the second floor so Cindy stayed behind with her while I went with the group. Cindy gave my wife a short personal tour. I recommend Kimberly Crest for it's interesting history, amazing photos, amazing interior and warm staff. I recommend this adventure without hesitation!

We came too late for the last visit at the Kimberly Crest House & Gardens.
We decided to explore the gardens.
We could see the castle very well.
We found several flowers.
There was a fountain and a statue.
We enjoyed our walk in the gardens.
A must see!

We didn't have time to tour the inside of the house. The architecture was beautiful and the front gardens were great. I was expecting more from the rest of the garden area, but it was quite small. Perhaps it would be more impressive later in the season.

The Kimberly Crest Gardens are a small but historically significant place to visit while in the Redlands area. Occupied by the Kimberly family, the founders of the Kimberly-Clark Paper company, the home features a view of life as it was at the turn of the 20th century. The Gardens are magnificent and take a leisurely stroll of 1-2 hours to see.

If you want that rustic hometown feel to kick off your Xmas season? This is the place! The hot cider and cocoa is definable as the perfect drink just as they light the tree and the grounds. We will definitely be back next year.

This is a famous landmark mansion where the Kimberly family lived in the early days of Redlands. Enter thru the private drive and it will take you up to the garden area. Tours are given during the week but it may be closed on Wed. Located next door to Prospect Park which is a wonderful day trip in itself. Great views of the valley and there is even a Shakespeare theater in the center of the park.

Walking through the gardens and up to the house, I felt like I was walking into the past. I could imagine a garden party on the grounds. I enjoyed hearing about Redlands' past and the family who lived here. The gardens are lovely with a fountain that I liked sitting on the edge of.

Is open to public meaning I see hours for tours, but if we just wanted to take pictures outside is that possible? Or is there a gate?
Written April 21, 2018
Sorry, I don't know the answer. I suggest you contact the house directly.
