We stayed in the JGW RV Park and had a river from site for 2 nights. loved taking our chairs out to the grassy areas beneath mature trees and sat to watch the river, floaters and boaters pass by . We come from the central coast of CA so do not get to see a river this large frequently. Really loved the river setting and riparian areas.
The river seemed quite high this years so there must have been plenty of snow this past winter. We rode our bikes beside the river and also walked for miles along the river trail. Not to be missed.

I live close to the river. You fish or hire a fishing boat company and have a blast on the river. There are trails and beautiful parks and camp grounds along the river in Red Bluff ca. Red Bluff is a quaint little sweet historical town and also has the Rodeo big time at certain times of the year. Go further North about 1 hour and you have the caverns.. The river holds plenty to do, fish, water ski, jet ski, swim, with life jackets, and pic nice for the whole family!

Upper Sac River is scenic. Weather your are sight seeing, bird watching, a boater , or fisherman , you'll enjoy the beauty of this part of the river. Camping and motels are nearby. Major shopping in abundant.

The Sac River Trails are awesome. The mostly paved trails wind along or near the Sacramento River, but ALL of Redding has been overrun with homeless & criminal transients. Fed & catered to by a large number of vocal do-gooder organizations, they run amok day & night. Take care as you would in a large dangerous city as law enforcement has not grown to keep up with the increased demands. Leave valuables @ home, lock everything in your trunk, and watch your kids. Solo women should take extra care and perhaps avoid the remote trails. Sad but true. No longer a pleasant place to visit or live.

An elderly woman was beaten & attacked on the Sacramento River Trail in the morning on June 11, 2016. On June 8, 2016, another hiker was held up at gunpoint in the daytime on another local trail. Redding is not safe anymore. Do not use the trails alone. If you decide to come, bring weapons. Sad but true. Leave nothing visible in your car. Local authorities do nothing.

The river is beautiful and has wonderful walking trails. A great place to just hang out by the river is at the Sundial Bridge.

The view! Amazing. Fishing is the best in the fall (can't remember the dates that one can fish.) So close to everything, so beautiful, and there's SO MUCH beach along the river but it's really not for swimming - it's a Fisherpersons paradise. I LOVE Redding especially spending time with family on the Sacramento river- the Sundial bridge goes Right Over it! September you can see fish swimming back to the trinity river to mate.

This river has excellent year round fishing for trout and seasonal for salmon, but from Redding to Red Bluff the access to the river and fishing from the shore is limited to a few locations which tend to be crowded and overfished. If you have a boat or hire a guide the fishing can be very good.

Redding has done a remarkable job of making the Sacramento River a pleasant focal point as it passes through the city. In addition to being a pristine clear river, the city fathers have developed the city property along the river into an exceptionally inviting place for their citizens and visitors. There are marinas, parks, museums, hiking trails, playgrounds, and interesting places to visit all along the river. The beauty of the area has been preserved in a way that all can enjoy; from fishermen to bikers and from the seniors out for a stroll to the family with small children. Other communities could learn from Redding about the benefits of showcasing a beautiful body of water that passes through their community.

From the headwaters in Mt. Shasta to the Delta towards the Bay, the Sacramento is a beautiful river all the way. There is fly fishing upstream in the canyons through Dunsmuir, Castella, and Sweetbriar as well as rafting, bass in Shasta Lake, trout and salmon as you go south, and delicious stripers and even sturgeon at the southernmost part. There are sandbars, canyons, lots of feeder creeks, farmland and beautiful homes along this river...if you ever get a chance to take a boat ride you will never regret it. If you want to fish it, there are plenty of guides. This is a blessing to Northern California in so many ways!
