Lots of fun. Great activity to do with teenagers. Water is cold, but Sac is hot, so it all works out. 3-4 hours is just right. Make sure you have a water canon with you or just buy one at the shop.

Don't need anything more than sunscreen, a hat, a swimsuit, water, and a some snacks. Don't bother bringing a towel--you'll dry off and most likely anything not in a water-proof bag or container will get wet (that is if people go in and out of the water).

Great rafting experience even for first timers! We had fun. Plus the staff of American River Raft Rentals was very organized and accomodating. No long lines.

This was our second time w them. Overall, a good experience. No hassle checkins, issue boats, carry it down to the river. Bit of a walk. but not too bad. The river is fun, this year its flowing much faster than 2015. You can stop at the beaches for a picnic, else the float will get over too quickly (under 3 hrs). The only negative is their bus ride back: no AC in the bus, and long lines to get onto the next bus. While the 90/100 degree sacramento summer temperatures dont feel bad while u are on the river, its oppressive to wait in that kind of heat or travel in a crowded bus. But given that we did go back w them a second year, we'll probably overall still give them a thumbs up, only i wish they improved the bus ride back.

American River Raft Rentals offers a wonderful way to spend a relaxing day just floating on the American River by the Rancho Cordova area. We already did the class 2 & 3 whitewater rafting at South Fork of the American River, but we also wanted to just relax and spend a lazy few hours on the smooth part of the American River. We rented two 10-12 person rafts and just floated our way across the river. Brought our own food and drinks in coolers, found a great spot where we picnicked and cooled off in the water. We spent about 5 hours on the river enjoying the view and camaraderie among other rafters. At the end of our trip, friendly crew from the American River Raft Rentals collected our rafts, paddles and life-vests, then drove us in a bus back to their main office where our cars where parked. This activity was very affordable and a hassle-free way to enjoy smooth water rafting on the American River. Kids and grownups had such a great time we want to do this again next year!

A few things to mention first of all parking lot very small get here early. We came about an hour before they open and had to park in the dirt field. Next you must carry your raft and your ice chest down to the river with whoever is in your party. For me this was difficult because my two granddaughters ( very young and no help ) and daughter and a large ice chest we had to take many rest. And the last thing I found out is you must pay $5 per person to take the bus back to your car its not included in the price of the raft. So after those three things we had a great time expect to get wet. It took us about 3 hours with a couple small stops on the way.. well worth it much longer than the Truckee river raft run. Bring food .. bring drinks.. lots of sunscreen..

Check-in: This place has got to get their stuff together when it comes to checking in groups and getting them on the water. They recommend that you schedule a reservation, which I did - for 10:45a, but it doesn't help anything at all. You still have to stand in the general line and wait like everyone else. The line was horrendous! Like I said, I had a reservation for 10:45a, I didn't get to the check-in counter until 12:45p - right before they cut off renting rafts to everyone. Not a pleasing way to start your day, especially when you're in a tin hut/shed/building thing in 100+ degree weather and you're just wasting the time you could be on the river. It was so stuffy and hot in the building that a girl next to me passed out, had seizures and had to be taken out by the Fire Dept. (This isn't the cause for the long check-in either).

Raft Suggestions: I strongly suggest upgrading to a bigger size raft (we did the 10-person raft - there was 4 of us plus your standard camping cooler), you may be able to get away with a 6-person raft if there are 4 of you plus a cooler, but it may be a bit cramped. Don't even consider the 4-person raft, it's a joke, not even a good option for only 2 people.

Getting to the River: Now, you may have ready on their website after you get your raft, it's a 10-15 minute walk to the river. This walk was #@%&'ing MISERABLE!!! We threw a full cooler, a case of water and some food in the center of the raft and attempted to carry it down to the river front. The sucker was HEAVY and we tried all different combinations of carrying it, but inevitably had to stop multiple times so we could catch our breath or give our arms and hands a rest. You have to cross and walk alongside (no sidewalk) a busy street with your raft. When you finally get to the put-in on the river, there are tons of inconsiderate people blocking the entry due to finishing getting their suits ready or putting on sunscreen, or just standing there picking their nose. It's a huge cluster....

With all that negative out of the way - when we finally got on the water and took a few paddles away from shore, all our frustrations and poor attitudes just seemed to vanish. We had an incredibly fun day on the water and everyone else around us seemed to have a great time as well. The raft was well constructed and held up to our dancing and diving off the edges into the river.

I can't wait to get back on the river with my friends again, but next time we plan on purchasing our own personal rafts and putting in from the Upper Sunrise access point.

Being an avid outdoor recreation enthusiast, I have admired this business since moving to the Sacramento area in 1987. They make it easy to get on the river and to have a fun carefree day of leisure. Their rental fees and policies are reasonable, and they provide a shuttle back to the start for a few bucks. Also, it is a much easier and preferable launch from their side of the river. Enjoy! You'll be back for more.

American River Raft Rentals is awesome!! The customer service was excellent while getting us all set up. We had a few first time rafters that had a blast, including my 6 and 8 year old. The shuttle that picked us up at the end of our trip was perfect. I would definitely recommend this business for a day of complete fun! We will being doing this again very soon!
