Parahawking was a once in a life time experience. You can parahawk with Fly with a Bird through Total Raptor Experience. Dave and his wife (who own Fly with a Bird) are an incredible team! You can tell Dave really cares for his birds, and he’s very knowledgeable about the species. The birds are fed very well. Dave even kept using his hand to wipe the birds beak and feet to make sure they’re clean- you can really see how well he cares for them. Parahawking simulates wild hunting for these birds & the birds actually prefer flying with him because they are protected from other predators in the air; though they will fly off on their own sometimes which is cool to watch too! I flew with Bonco, a falcon who has been training for 4 years so he’s very used to this interaction and spent most of the time in the air with us. He went off and chased another bird out of the “territory” for a while too which was so cool to see! Bonco is very friendly and honestly seems to love parahawking. When I was finished, Bonco went back with the other two birds- one of whom seemed very jealous that she didn’t get to parahawk so Dave’s wife took her out by herself. These two treat their birds so well! And it is so amazing to paraglide with a bird swooping around either side of you- it makes the experience so much more interesting. This is something everyone should try at least once. I’d absolutely recommend parahawking with Fly With a Bird and I hope I’ll be back soon! The weather, though it was January, was about 70 degrees with just enough wind for parahawking. Dave was able to give me a good % chance about 2 days beforehand though in the summer, you should be able to reserve a time even sooner. The weather in La Jolla is always good so you shouldn’t worry too much. There is a nude beach, a black sand beach, UC San Diego, wave pools, and a beautiful cliff trail within walking distance. Dave pointed out all these things with directions on how to reach them. He also recommended a seal beach that was 15 mins away that was amazing too! I only wish they sold Parahawking souvenirs. Bring your own go pro or SD card (if you don’t have one, Dave can provide one) to take pictures with.

I got the Basic Falconry class for my husbands birthday. He said it was the best present ever! Terry's facility in Ramona is so interesting and her skills as a falconer are exceptional. She also makes the hands on experience so much fun. She is a knowledgeable and very very nice person. There are all kinds of animals to see while you are there. Birds, an owl, alpaca, tortoises, exotic birds, chickens, pigs, horse, emu, so many. And the place is extremely clean. You can tell Terry loves these animals and loves what she does. They are also getting a little house ready to be a air b&b, which will be so much fun to stay in. Highly recommend Total Raptor Experience.

We decided to take a Falconry lesson at the Torres Pines Gliderport last minute! Antonella accommodated our last minute request, was super easy to communicate with and extremely responsive! We are so glad we discovered this gem on our last day in San Diego - it was just THE BEST! My husband and I loved learning about the birds and interacting with them so up close. Dave and Antonella are kind, sweet and knowledgable, and we really enjoyed this experience. Hope to do it again when we are back in the area!

Go! Just go to Ramona and experience Ms. Terri the Master Falconer in her element. Incredible. My 11 year old son had fall break and we booked a private interaction with Ms Terri and her birds. We were able to have the birds fly to us and my son used a lure. I credible to see a raptor swoop and eat in front of you! But, there was more. We were able to interact with another raptor and beautiful owl too. We also saw two 150 lb tortoise that we had the privilege to feed and watched Ms Terri hug her emu and a goose. This lady is loving, super smart and so knowledgeable. If your kids like animals and can follow directions and are brave enough to be next to a raptor, you will be blessed by this experience. Worth every penny. If you are an adult, you will learn and see things that are so cool. Amazing. Truly unique and fun. Just a little way from SN Diego animal park, and a true interactive experience.
