IRON MOUNTAIN TRAIL provides a grand vista to the east, where there are multiple horizons, that is, horizontal row of nearby mountains, a horizontal row of medium-distance mountains, and a horizontal row of way-distant mountains (see my photos). The trail comes to a "dead end"...More

I will make this review pretty short and to the point. First off, if you are of average athletic ability, you can make it to the top. If you are not, or you are just starting an exercise program, then just stay on the flatter...More

Great hike close to San Diego. Moderate switchbacks, well naked with parking and facilities at trail head. Just outside of Poway. Couple picnic benches and a free telescope at the summit!

When you get to the top of this, just like Mt. Woodson, get someone to pat you on the back or just do it yourself, as it is a challenging hike. Restrooms are only at the trailhead, and at the top there is a picnic...More

This hike takes me 3 hours up and back but I do walk the trail (I'm 64 with bad knees). While it is a hike up for 2 miles there are many switchbacks to keep it from being too steep. I do recommend sturdy shoes...More

We wanted an outdoor workout, so the concierge at the Park Hyatt suggested a hike up Iron Mountain in nearby Poway. Only 6 miles, he said. Of course he failed to say it was 3.5 miles up a slippery trail with sand covering rocks and...More
